Highchairs?!! Lost!

Get the Ikea one!! I have cleaned literally hundreds of highchairs over the years (worked in nurseries) and the fancy wooden or padded material ones are a pain to clean. The ikea one is soooo easy a few wipes with a cloth or wet wipe and it's done.

No idea why people buy fancy ones that tilt back ...why would you need that ? if they fall asleep lift them out!

The tilt is for babies that can't fully support themselves.

I absolutely HATE the one we picked out before LO was born. It's the one via the link below- so I would honestly avoid anything similar. The link below THAT is the one I wish we'd gotten- but at this point, it doesn't make sense to purchase another one. So we live with what we got. I just hate the cover and how it's not easy to clean- only wash- and I don't like strapping her in, so I can't take the entire front off or she could leap on out- it's just not very functional. Best of luck!

Here is what we have (just a diff color): https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Trend-H...681588&sr=8-10&keywords=baby+trend+high+chair

Here is what I WANT!: https://us.mamasandpapas.com/en-US/product/275/pixi-highchair/option/276 or https://us.mamasandpapas.com/en-US/product/382/juice-highchair/option/383

I love love that M&P raspberry one. Will look if they have it on the uk site. Thanks

I spent hours debating which high chair to get, looking at reclining ones, folding ones, ones with big baskets etc etc. After asking a few people they advised me that

- ones with big baskets only end up accumulating mess ing them
- babies very rarely fall asleep in their highchair (DD has done it once!) so why get a reclining one
- a folding one is handy but you'll probably keep it out most of the time anyway
- and anything padded accumulates mess in the creases (like others have said).

I went for a mamas and papas bop from argos which looked nicer than the ikea one and slightly more comfy having a padded green bit in the seat. It was a nightmare as food somehow got underneath it, and was virtually impossible to get out. So I bought the Ikea antilop and it is great, so easy to clean, she is comfy in it, it tucks right up to the dining table, the tray is removable. Perfect.

I've used plenty of the wooden ones in restaurants and even now DD is bigger she never looks comfy in them. Same for the folding ones that are slightly reclined when open, she doesn't look comfy in those either. Also the ones without a sturdy section between the legs are a bit rubbish as she slips down in them.

We live in a small manhattan apartment so I had only three criteria:
- small and folds away easily
- easy to clean
- sturdy

We bought the baby bjorn. Fits our criteria perfectly and takes all of 30 seconds to clean with a wet wipe! A bit pricey but definitely worth every penny for our needs.

I don't know if it's available in the UK.. but we have the fisher healthy care high chair. We have the ocean wonders one. It rolls, reclines, is easy to clean, height adjustable, we love it!

I love the ikea antilop. Its really easy to clean and cheap. We did have a fancy padded one, but all the grooves in the padding were a magnet for food.

We actually got an expensive one - just because we were given some money when he was born and we wanted to get some good stuff however my parents in law have bought this one for when he;s at theirs and it does the job just as well. I agree - the one we have (picnic highchair or sth form mothercare) does attract all the food! :) Th eonly thing I would say it get one with a removeable tray but i think they are all mostly like this now anyway

We got a Chicco happy snack... Because it was pretty. But honestly it s a bugger to clean and the crevices get grimly no matter how hard I tried. The padded seat and multi recline was good but the seat, while waterproof, had non waterproof bits on the seams and over time it just stank, even though it was regularly washed. We'll reuse it for Mops as I promise we would when I chose it over a cheaper one.... But if I had a do over I'd get a cheap ikea moulded plastic one. The least material and straps you get on it the better... Material gets rank and stinky. Xx

The tilt is for babies that can't fully support themselves.

Being able to support themselves if one of the key things baby should be able to do before you start to wean. A baby that cannot sit up should not be being weaned in fairness. However I found the recline useful for keeping him further from the tray when he started to bash haha xx

The antilop is definetly the winner but I don't drive and there's no ikea close. I can be a bit of a clean freak so will avoid fabric and go for a moulded one!

I think I'm going to get this one - https://www.mamasandpapas.com/product-juice-highchair-raspberry/400798500/type-i/ it matches my kitchen too :haha:

that's nice, I liked that one too and the fact it turns into a little chair. Good choice!

She couldn't fully support herself (sitting) until 8 months. Seems a bit late to start solids.

Really nice! But I am wondering if food will go underneath the padded seat as app said about a similar one? (I think it was the M&P Bop?)

I am trying to decide too. I was thinking I'd get the Ikea one,but then got handed down a Chicco one and tried it - it is disgusting, collects food everywhere!

Question to those who have the IKea one - is it sturdy enough? I am worried my LO will bring it down!

(sorry to hijack! :flower:)

We have a fairly expensive one, I think it's a Fresco Bloom Loft or something like that. It's a good chair and was great when my second LO was a little baby as you can lie it right back so I let LO sleep in it when I was cooking and she was out of reach of her sister! But really, I wish we'd saved the money and got the cheap Ikea one. You can't put an expensive padded one with fancy stuff on it in the shower or hose it down in the garden! And they all really do the same job. We also have one that sits on top of a normal dining chair. It's really intended for going out I think but we use it at home. It came with padding but I removed that and use just the plastic. You can take the tray off so LO can sit properly at the table. I've use it with a 6 month old with no problems (the harness is good) and my three year old uses it every day as her chair. I like that it folds up, it's easy to clean and it can be take out if we need it/round to the grandparents etc. It's an older version of this one I think - https://www.mothercare.com/Motherca...-Mothercare%20Folding%20Booster%20Seat-%20Red - which I see doesn't come with the padded stuff anymore so it's more practical. I think, actually, if I could do it again I'd just get two of those.

I had a look at the reviews and you can remove the padding if any food gets under it. Thank god haha

....hose it down in the garden?! I don't think I had realised how messy this was going to be ha ha!! Our first baby is only 9 weeks so we don't have a high hair yet And this thread is really helpful.

I like the look of the mamas and papas go eat - really stylish. Anyone else got this one and if so what is it like? (sorry to hijack).

Thanks for starting the thread :-)

Yeah its pretty sturdy. She will bounce around in it and hasnt brought it down yet, and my 20 month old niece treats hers pretty badly and hasnt done any damage to it. They usually have them in cafes (at least over here!) so you could take him for a test drive :flower:
