Home Birthers & Hopefuls!

welcome, and congratulations on number 2. feeling very broody today, wish i was here oficially iykwim lol. x

There is no way I'm going to be able to read this whole thread so I guess I'll just jump right in where I can!

I've been a long-time natural birth hopeful for many years. After we got married, I assumed my husband and I would have no trouble getting pregnant. I learned about charting and other ways to ensure a speedy conception, but spent tons of time thinking about natural birth, and hypnobabies, and water birth, and cloth diapers, and baby wearing, and all these other things that I hoped we'd have a chance to do once we had children.

Unfortunately, it took us a long time to conceive and all those thoughts got pushed aside to make room for thoughts of infertility and surgeries and IVF and adoption. Then, at almost one year of trying exactly, after a few failed infertility treatments and just before a surgery to fix a lot of my reproductive issues that a fertility specialist found, we found out we were pregnant.

I'm only a few weeks in, and I still worried about jinxing things. But, I'm slowly starting to allow myself to plan for the future again. Having a natural birth is still really important to me, and despite so many things going wrong in our TTC journey, I'm really hoping for great things when it comes time to birth this long-awaited baby. Looking forward to meeting others, and learning as much as I can before next December!

I had my little girl! :happydance: How do I get a "homebirth achievers" badge for my signature? Here's a link to Iris' Birth story! https://www.babyandbump.com/birth-s...is-teresas-water-home-birth.html#post16687519

Thanks for the welcome ladies!

Congratulations! Try not to think about jinxing things... writing here won't change what's going to happen... and the odds are, that's a healthy baby in December! Just take it one day at a time. I can identify with a 'bumpy' ride to conception - it took us 18 months/cycles - glad you got there in the end.

Congratulations on the birth of your little girl! Always love hearing of other homebirths. :) Sounds like things went really well. Your little girl was just 1oz lighter than mine (although I was 42+3 ;)). Reading your story takes me right back as it sounds very similar to my daughter's birth 2 years ago. Fab to read... thanks for sharing.

Had my booking appointment today... I had an inkling of this as I co-run a homebirth support group, but my (lovely and very pro-homebirth) midwife confirmed it... there were previously 5 midwives on call (from home) overnight for homebirths, but this has changed to just 2 based at the hospital. Covering the whole of South Derbyshire! And if one calls in sick, the homebirth service is suspended for the entire night. This has already happened several times since the changes came in in January. I feel a campaign coming on...

CONGRATULATIONS! xx

Congratulations home birthers and a very warm welcome new hopefuls!! :)

Welcome 254! :)

Welcome and huge congrats, lemon tree! :hugs:

Congrats on your baby girl, KiwiMom! :D

Hello again, I can start thinking about planning now rather than thinking about thinking about planning iykwim  got my bfp this morning, still super early but feeling confident

:hi: random question incase i'm lucky enough to be having another hb next summer (fx'ed!)...does anyone know if homebirths are exempt from the hosepipe ban to fill the birth pool? or can you class it as just a big bath (huge bath ), just a random thought and wondering how those due soon are getting around it?!

and congrats bubbles!! are you going to aim to tandem feed all three? xx

^ha ha I'd fill it up anyway! I don't use a hosepipe outside ever, and for pain relief purposes I'd go for it.

Yes they are exempt

I'd say it's essential use and at the end of the day, who's goona bust you anyway?!!! If you had 6 baths for comfort in labour that would be about the same as a pool I reckon. Just don't make a big thing of it is my approach :winkwink:

Thank you for the congrats. I'll have to see how the pregnancy goes, I'd like to nurse all three because the times I tandem nursed were amazing in the early days and really helped them bond (now they just bicker  ) At the same time, part of me hopes DS weans as he's the eldest. It would free me up alot in the evenings, at the moment DH settles DD to sleep while I nurse DS to sleep

wow thats impressive! i guess what will be will be :). Think i'm kinda hoping Alex weans either before i get pregnant again or during pregnancy, not sure why lol, but if he doesn't i guess I'll be joining the tandem feeding too :). Hope all continues to go well xx

Am I being super picky by being put off a doula because of some of the books she has in her lending library? They are books advocating CIO and I'm really not comfortable with it. Thing is it narrows my limited choice by disregarding her based on a book she owns

Holy heck girls, I've been told today by an anesthisiologist that a shoulder dystocia delivery is safer with an epidural.... My goodness, that sure solidified my reason that I don't trust hospital labour wards.

Bubbles: I would be realllly put off by that tbh.

OMG! I saw that too. I really wanted to bicker with that guy but i resisted. ...and did you see the part about him saying OBs push the baby back in and then do a c-section? :dohh: erm, no they dont! you NEVER push the baby back.:dohh: that would likely kill them! ...im wondering if he is a troll, tbh.
And his version on the shoulder dyscotia thing is ridiculous. I totally agree with what you said, and furthermore, i was not impressed that he advocated to his wife that bc she had one shoulder dyscotia then she needs an epi the next time  I had shoulder dyscotia with Elliot (home water birth), and that was a super easy fix that didnt hurt. I just got on all fours...had i had an epi, there's no way i could have done that :dohh:
Im def. with you on that hun.
