I never found it that bad... but I made the drink up the night before and put it in the fridge. They take a vile of blood and tested it. It's not as bad as it seems, you just need to remember to take some food for after your test and only to sip water..

Ahh some hospitals do it differently.. might just be a finger prick of blood but most likely a vile... No you can't eat in between, they need to see what your sugars do once you have taken the sugar drink... mine came back at 11.9 when I had it!!!

I had one at 28 weeks and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. Take some books or mags to keep you occupied in the 2 hours and SIP water only in that time as you do not want the sugar drink diluted. Take something to eat after such as a Banana or sandwich, anything sweet may be a bit too much and nothing to oheavy!! I also passed time towards the end of the 2 hours by joining in the "how long you been waiting?" conversations by repling "nearly 2 hours!" Peoples faces were priceless

They took the blood from the same arm for the second test and I had extra taken at the first as they do bloods at 28 weeks here.

I had to see a whole heap of people... Dietitian, diabetic doctor, diabetic midwife and diabetic consultant and got repeat scans to track the baby's grownth. but my diet wasn't actually bad, just had to really reduce the carbs... I test my blood 4 times a day and am on insulin three times a day. Although I felt bad I was looked after well and I get induced tomorrow..

I got tested at 28weeks... I've had 10 weeks of monitoring everything. Although you feel crappy as a mum because your body is giving up, the positive is that it's not forever!

Yeah excited... good luck for the GTT tomorrow xx

They have to use the right arm for me, they can never get a vein in my left arm, I don't think it hurts as much as the first either!!

I slept in as late as possible so I did not have time to think about breakfast and ate loads the night before to fill me up and keep me ticking over!!

Interesting how it is done sooo differently over there!!

I had mine 2 weeks ago, I didn't find the drink bad..but it was cold so that might of helped! lol Anyhow, all they had me do was drink it within 5 minutes, I couldn't have anything to eat/drink while I was waiting..but we only wait for an hour over here? I didn't get bloods taken before, only after and that was 2 tubes from the same arm. Then it was over. I found that the drink just made me really sleepy, and gave me a horrid headache, but when I ate when I got home I felt muuuch better. Good luck, hun, the worst part I found was waiting :hugs:
