How did you get started on IUI/IVF? HELP

Isn't it amazing everything we have to go through for our BFP, and others just get pregnant instantly? I'll never understand it. :(

Me either, I think about that a lot.

guess my PCOS with irregular periods just knocks me out of the trial :(
anyway, have an appt with a clinic on 11/15!!

I have PCOS as well, maybe that is what kicked me out. Good luck at your appointment! I hope it goes well!

Thanks! I am excited and terrified at the same time! Excited for a chance and taking a step forward, terrified = finances. I am afraid and pretty sure my insurance won't cover a single thing! Which stinks, coz otherwise it's a great insurance and I pay quite a lot for it! Florida... And a small employer. No way around it for now. So I am debating credit cards, or loans, probably not my savings... I am thinking, depending on the tests they might order, IUI won't be such an issue, but IVF for sure. And my hubbie said one IVF only!

Side note: I was sitting at a lunch table with a few coworkers and they were talking about pregnancy tests and how awkward it was to use it and stuff, like one got pregnant on birth control. And just in general, how terrifying would it be if it positive. Some of them know my issues, but one did not, so I did not say anything. Ugh.

Money is our issue. No insurens in oregon covers IVF. I really hope we don't get that far. We really can't afford it.

I agree with pilot. If your RE finds no issues with you and the only issues is hubby's swimmers, you may want to try IUI first. I am sure if you absolutely insist on IVF immediately, as a paying patient, your dr will likely honor your wishes. But with IUI, if they don't find any issues with you, you really don't even have to do meds. But even if you do, it is such a low dose. With IVF there is soooo much medication and so much invasiveness with the procedure. The retrieval and injections alone is a lot. But of course us who have no other choice will do what it takes.

With the IUI you have two things working for you - the washing will separate the good guys from the bad guys. Then too, they will put them directly into the uterine cavity, and sometimes are able to get them right near the fallopian tube. This basically give the swimmers the best shot at making it - and in reality, you really only need one good one. I would do 2-3 cycles of IUI before trying IVF if I were you.

I definitely know what you mean. Some women taking being able to get pregnant so easily for granted! It kinds of makes you want to cringe. But I was having a talk with my friends about this - and I guess everyone has that thing. That thing that happens so easily for them that they take it for granted. I am not sure what mine is - but I am sure I have one - that makes others resent me for it. But having something be so precious be that thing that is out of reach for you - can be devastating. I am just hoping to be pregnant someday. I don't really care when or how, but I just want it to happen. I really hope I am able to get pregnant out of this clinical trial. This was such a godsend for me. I am not sure what excluded some of you ladies but there are lots of women who graduated the trial with PCOS. But either way, I will keep you all posted. My first monitoring visit is tomorrow and I am doing that locally. My insurance covers that as well. And I was actually able to get insurance to cover my meds too. I will know by Saturday if I am all set to start stims are if I have to stay on the Lupron for a little while longer.

Hi ladies, I could do with an assisted conception knowledgeable-lady opinion please. We've taken 15 months to get preg and finally, against all odds were successful (i have neen diagnosed as premature ovarian depletion @ < 5% chance).
We had a chemical in june, mc 2 nights ago @ 9 weeks and now he wants to try again, i think try for a month or 2 but get on the ivf wait list (2-3 mnths long). With this diagnosis would you just continue trying or fork out the $8000 to get some eggies frozen + a decent chance at conception without waiting too long? I'm getting anxious as the clock ticks and he's very hopeful.
Thank you kindly in advance for your advice.

I think you should keep trying and find an OB that deals with recurrent miscarriages. At 9 weeks, that miscarriage was likely not due to egg quality issues. There are some things that contribute to recurrent miscarriages that can be prevented with proper care.

My cousin kept having recurrent miscarriages - but after it is over there is nothing they can do to tell what happened. So on her last pregnancy (after about 6 miscarriages) she kept going to the dr complaining of pain in her abdomen to get them to run tests to find out what was going on. Come to find out she had some issue with clotting blood. She had to do a daily blood thinner injection in her belly throughout the pregnancy and went on to delivery a beautiful and healthy baby girl at 39 weeks. She will be 3 this Sunday.

I would suggest you get pregnant then go in lying to the drs to get this result, but there are OBs that specialize in issues that cause miscarriages. They may be able to help you determine early in the pregnancy is there is anything they need to do and can do to help you sustain the pregnancy. If there is an issue with your lining, that may be something that can be fixed by a procedure prior to getting pregnant again. If there is an issue with lining in regards to maintaining the appropriate level to support the pregnancy, that may only require progesterone supplementation. There are so many thing it could be. But with you making it to 9 weeks, chances are it wasn't an egg quality issue and chances are, even with IVF, the same thing could happen after the successful pregnancy.

This is just my opinion. I would definitely talk to the dr. I wouldn't wait too long to try IVF but I think you have a good shot going the natural route with a little assistance.

Thanks Newlywedgal. I will speak to the fc about it then. I was on progesterone supplements. Just don't want it happening again.

Thank you for the info! I guess I'm just scared/pessimistic about IUI. I know I shouldn't be, because it does work for some ladies- I'm just so discouraged because I feel like I've already exhausted every option to get a natural BFP on my own (with everything in the history of the internet (:haha: lol) for nearly two years now and nothing has happened. I just don't feel like I'm EVER going to get a BFP. I guess I'm having one of those moments. :) Has anyone else had IUI yet?

My first IUI was in September and it was negative, I had my second on october 24th, I have my beta on monday.

I called the fc on the 1st day that month and laid a deposit down for iui. They told me to opk and when i got a +, we went in the next morning. OH at 9am for donation, me at 11am after :spermy:was scrubbed. Nurse walked in with huge grin holding up the vial saying his numbers were great, she put the tube in me, it hurt slightly and then I told her i'd like to stay there for 5 minutes. Then I left.

Two weeks later I had a BFN. My friend had a BFP so I know it works for some people.
Gl with it!

I go in for an ultrasound on cd14ish. Trigger that night, two days later have iui, sit for ten minutes, have :sex: that night and the next, wait 12 days, have blood scan, get BFN.

At least they offered you an u/s. I felt frustrated paying for iui not knowing if I'd released an egg or not. Also trigger shot to ensure you release the egg. An opk may go + but it still doesn't guarantee ovulation.

I had u/s and bloods to see if I'm surging. I didn't go for the trigger this time bc I o on my own but next time I'm going to opt for it bc I think the timing got messed up. My body decided to take her time letting the egg out and seems I went in too early. I just figured they could tell all that from the u/s but I guess not.

Yes, the monitoring and the control has been nice. I have never ovulated without the trigger. I have my blood test today. I am sure it will be another BFN. Not sure what we are going to do this next cycle which will probably be here tomorrow.
