How do you prepare to feed solids?

Pediatricians tend to recommend iron for breastfed babies because there is much more iron in formula than breastmilk. However, the reason for this is actually because it is absorbed more effectively from breastmilk. Therefore it's not really necessary. If you want to increase iron I'd try giving red meat. My boys love meatballs, for example, and my youngest was eating them fairly early on as they're nice and soft and easy to pick up.

Rice cereal is generally just empty calories and I wouldn't personally bother with it.

I'd return the puree maker if you're definitely not going to use it. The steamer would be great for soft veggie sticks though :thumbup:
 
Have a look at the weaning board, there's loads of info on baby led weaning on there. I love it :) I didn't do any supplementation or give any solids until 6 months, it's not necessary, the WHO now recommends waiting til 6 months, not 4 months to give the gut time to develop and mature.
