How effective are membrane sweeps

I'm getting one next week a couple of days before 40 weeks. Are they effective at making labour happen?

i think it very much depends on the person and how far dilated / effaced you are already.

I had a sweep with DD at 40+4, at 10.30 in the morning, within 10 minutes i was having contractions and DD was born at 23.40 the same day. I was already fully effaced and 5cm dilated though when I had my sweep.

With my first, the sweep didn't work but with my second it did... it definitely depends on how ready your body is xx

Ok thanks girls. I'm having one in 2 days time & it's almost surreal to think that bubs could be here this weekend although she could arrive any minute now really...
