How long can it take? (TMI)

I think I've definitely lost my plug/had my show (not bloody but looked different to plug) and I'm getting cramps and the odd twinge and a fair bit of backache.

How long can it take to go into labour after having a 'bloody' show? Is there anything I can do to encourage things along??
