i have 5 children to buy for n i dont go ott i want them to understand the value of money n christmas is not about money in my opinion i pick up on things they have asked for in the yr n get what i can afford i prob spend 80-100 on each but spread it through the yr but some of my teenagers friends get the latest consoles phones ect i cant afford that they did have a joint present last yr we got them a wii second hand but it was for the family not just one how much do u spend on your kids do u think im doing right??

I think you are right - millions of expensive presents are all well and good if you can afford it and that's what you want to do but I know my parents couldn't do it and we didn't suffer as a result. Our nieces, nephews, friends kids etc end up with more presents than they could possibly know what to do with anyway :-)

Your kids will have some pressies, they will be safe, happy, fed and loved this christmas - what more could anyone ask for? :-)

thanks for the reassurance some of their friends parents go to rediculous amounts to make xmas special because they have brought n given their kids the latest things as n when they come out dont get me wrong my kids dont go without but they do wait n if they want name stuff ect they have it second hand when i can get it cheap enough now i have 3 teenagers n find xmas harder as they get older n their mates are getting playstation 3 n iphones

No worries - don't forget that it's not what you spend or what you buy that makes christmas special :-)

Waiting for something you really really want just makes it all the better when you do get it. (Plus it may eliminate some of the "faddier" requests - I know I begged and begged for a Sega megadrive when I was a kid, coz all my friends had one. I played with it for maybe 2 hours on Christmas afternoon then never looked at it ever again! My poor parents!)

You sound like a lovely mummy you're all gonna have a lovely Christmas :-)

I spend the most we can afford. I won't put myself into debt but I'll buy her a good lot. I'm spending about £350 between her birthday on Jan4th and Christmas.

i have 4 kids and spend 100 maximum on each at xmas, i didnt have everthing i wanted growing up and it did me no harm, so my kids wont suffer from it

if they really want something they do get money for their birthdays, some off relatives at xmas and pocket money each week so they can do what i do when i want something and save for it

Jake aged 14 250
Katie aged 10 250
Ethan aged 2 150
lily aged 6 months 150

I didnt have a lot growing up and although we are not well off ...I save for christmas all yr for it to be special ...my 14 yr thinks 250 isnt enough but tough look told him once he hits 18 it starts to go down as he is a adult so not to moan and make most of it

You sound in the same boat as me although i only have 4 kiddies aged 12,almost 10,5 and 15months.
We usually opt for a family present too and then bulk things out with stocking fillars. This year we are getting a xbox 360 for them all but to be honest that will probably be my hubbys present too lol
At the end of the day i would love to buy them everything they ask for but would rather they knew the value of money which all of my kids do and they never moan about not having all the lastest things that sometimes there friends have. :hugs:

We spend way more than what we probably should come Christmas time. We try to only spend about $150 or so on each child, but we always spend more than that. Things are so expensive these days, and I don't want to spoil them, but after a few outfits each and a few new toys, etc, the money just adds up so quickly. I would say we usually spend about $200 or so on each child, not to mention the rest of the fam such as parents, siblings, etc.

5 year old....6 year old i spend £300 each on them there main pressie is usually £100 then then other £200 goes on other bits of toys and clothes money these days i dont think gets very far and it does add up very quickly....i didnt get a awful lot growing up so i guess im just giving my kids what i didnt have.

I also have my 2 year old i will be spending roughly £150 on her.
