How much formula is too much?

Hmmmmm not sure.
Ryland only has 2-3 6oz bottles all day. So MAYBE 18oz.if.I'm lucky.
He was never much of a drinker though.
However he has 2 big meals a day plus snacks.

I have been giving my LO 6 x 6.5oz bottles in a 24 hour period, which seems to be going ok - he sttn and eats every 3-4 hours during the day.
However, I have read on a couple of websites that the max a baby should eat is 32oz a day.

How much formula for your baby's size

Feeding guide 4-6 months (scroll down to chart)

Is that accurate?
These same sites also say that you should feed baby 2.5oz for each pound. LO weighed 17lbs7oz at his last weigh in 3 weeks ago, which would mean he'd be drinking 42.5oz, which is a little too much for him (he spits it up)

Any ideas? Do you think hes ready for cereal? Solids?

I've tried a few times with rice cereal and he seems to like it, but I dunno if I should incorporate it daily yet? Doc is on holiday for 3 weeks, otherwise I would ask her!
My daughter is 7 months on wednesday and drinks the same amount as your baby and she is 19lbs. but this does not mean your baby is ready for solids! you rbaby isnt ready till sitting up unaided etc. dont fix what isnt broken your babys doing fine you know your baby your baby is an individual and these are only guildines not set in stone ur babys doing fab x cereal will only fill the tummy and not offer anything nutriental wise. ur baby needs milk xx

Don't start on 3 meals love, just start with the one and gradually increase to give his tummy time to get used to it. You can also introduce puréed fruit and root vegetables as an alternative to cereal too. We alternated milk and solids at first so she had something every couple of hours once she was on 3 meals and her milk intake gradually reduced as her solid intake increased.

So maybe one meal of rice cereal a day, formula for the rest?
I guess in a few weeks of that we'll try fruit/potatoes

its made with his formula, so he's still getting the benefits of formula

What she means is that although you make rice cereal with formula, it can fill them up so they don't drink as much milk over the course of the day. But if you start with a small amount and build up over time this need not be the case.

Only you know if your baby is ready to start solids or not hun. The amount of milk your LO is drinking isn't excessive by any means and if he isn't showing any signs of being ready then wait and see how things go. But if you decide that now is the right time then do it with confidence, if it doesn't work out you can always wait a few weeks and try again.

I have a friend who's son drank a lot of milk, more than double the amount your LO has, and still drinks a lot to this day even though he's almost 18 months old. His mum started BLW with him at 6 months old. So as someone rightfully said the amount of milk a baby drinks isn't necessarily a reason to wean. Fran was on between 27-35oz a day and we started weaning at 17 weeks.

Please feel free to pm me if you want to chat or ask any questions xx

Just wanted to point out that you're child does not need to be able to sit unaided to feed solids.
I know plenty of children who wouldn't have started on solids until they were 9-10 months if that were the case.

oh that makes sense. I started with just a few tbsp and he seemed to like it. He was hungry again 3 hours later (which is normal) so maybe we'll try again in a few days and see how it goes.
