How soon did you get to see your Lo?

Hi :)

My son was 34weeks 5days and born by normal delivery but very very poorly (not breathing). Once the doctor had got him breathing again me and my partner got a quick 5 minute cuddle then he started struggling again so they took him down to NICU. He was born at 10.17pm and i saw him about 1am. This was purely because they were trying to stabilize him.

The doctors told me if i hadn't gone into spontaneous labour then he would've had time for more steroids (he had them at 29 weeks) and wouldve.been a better breather. So i assume you'll have them!

Good luck xxx

Thanks Donna gosh that must have been very traumatic for you, I'm pleased all worked out well in the end!!

Hi babsy I've had 2 steroid injections last week and I have to go in the day before the op so I'm guessing maybe I will have some more then. It's so nice to see he is doing so well now. Must have been very frightening for you.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. I have decided I'm going to ask that only oh see's him until I have had some time with him - family can wait as i will be insanely jealous. i told my mum this morning she was not too happy but at least she has a few days to get used. To the idea! Oh agreed with me :) just his mum left to tell but she should be fine with it..

I got to see my girl about 24 hours after she was born, but my c-section was under a general anaesthetic so there was no chance to do it as soon as she was born. Even if you cant get out of bed, they can wheel the bed down to SCBU if they need to. If LO is stable enough, they will let you have a peek before they take him away.

12 hours here. They took me down in my bed at 2.30am to see him

Ten hours or so here post C Sec. Not sure why took so long as my husband went to SCBU with him and spent all day coming back and forwards with pictures and video. I was fine but in a side ward for some reason. I didn't mind as had been so worried before he was born that to know he was doing well was enough for me. I'd had a glimpse when he came out but that was it til a cuddle later that evening. He was 35 +2. The day after my husband wheeled him up to my bedside and the day after he roomed in with me after that til we went home together.

21 hours for me. DH got to see her about 2 hours after she was born but I was really ill myself so didn't get to see her till the next afternoon. Hope everything is ok x

I had an emergency csection under general anesthesia due to severe pre-eclampsia, I wasn't able to go down until 24 hours later due to BP issues, and even then I only saw him for 5 minutes before they took me back to bed ( i kept asking and asking and asking to see him till they finally caved and dragged my IV pole with me!). My husband was able to go straight to the NICU and see him within 15 minutes of being born though, of which I was grateful! I at least got to see pictures.

Hi all Harrison was born at 36+5 by emcs but turns out my dates where out he is about 10 days earlier! He had fluid on his lungs and all over his body and struggled breathing so was taken straight to scbu - oh was able to see him once they had stabilised him and I got wheeled in the bed to see him as soon as I was out of recovery - about 3hrs from birth. He's gorgeous!! Had an infection & jaundice so had to go under uv lights but after a very very long week he is now home with me :) all 5.13 pounds of him!

Great News! Glad all is well with you both :)

I got to see LO as soon as I was able to prove that I could lift my hips off the gurney. This was about an hour after they finished suturing me up (and believe me, I was trying every 2-3 minutes to lift them... but damn that epidural! It worked so well!)

(DD was born at 31+3 via EMCS.)

My twins were born by EMCS at 31+6. I saw each of them for a moment and touched their heads before they were whisked off to the NICU. I had them at about 9pm, and was catheterized for about 12 hours after the surgery. I also had a reaction to the morphine in the epidural, and I was itching uncontrollably for hours because the hospital had RUN OUT of the medication the anestesiologist had prescribed to combat the itching...so I didn't get any sleep that night and ended up with a red swollen face from all the scratching. I think it was about 15 hours before they let me get up and go to the NICU. In the meantime, DH went and took a bunch of pictures so I could at least see them.
