How to get UK GP to help?

Hi guys,

I have been off depo since October 2013, I'm not sure I'm ovulating based on temps and signs.
However, it hasn't been 12 months, so am I entitled to any kind of test?

I'd like a progesterone test really... just to see if I AM ovulating. Do I stand a chance?
I don't really want to humiliate myself by asking if there's no chance and it's not something that is done before 12 months of TTC in the UK..

You can only try! What makes you think you're not ovulating? If it's long or unusual cycles then a gp may well test. It seems to be different in different places but when I was ttc #1 I was referred to gynae after a routine gp blood test - I'd been ttc for about 6 months at the time. I was annovulatory at that point so had zero periods & my gp found that worrying - I was diagnosed with pcos in the end.

Don't worry about embarrassing yourself - the only way to find out is to ask. You won't be the first (or last) to walk through a gp's door with concerns about fertility. Good luck!

I would definitely ask your GP for a referral to your local fertility services. The last time I TTC, I didn't ovulate (& had no periods) for around 6 months. My GP referred me to the fertility clinic & they ran tests which showed that I was not ovulating.

Good luck, I hope your GP is understanding. Mine were quick to act because I wasn't having any periods, I think if you're ovulating then they like you to wait 12 months x

Your doctor will probably agree to basic day 3 & 21 bloods without referring you to a specialist, I would just explain your concerns and request them. On day 3 you need LH, FSH and Estrogen, day 21 will be progesterone. If there's a problem with those results he will then refer you to a fertility clinic.

Thanks guys, I have all the ovulation pains and achey boobs afterwards etc. And my cycles are really regular. It's actually my temps that are worrying me.

And I never get EWCM either :/ I don't use OPKs because I find it all really stressy but I'm thinking about using the clearblue digis if I do use them.

Hi Hun I've been trying for 14/15 month now my doc normally won't do anything until after 18 months, but when I saw her last I mentioned my cycles had been all over the place etc was worried I wasn't ovulating as me & my partner have 2 children already conceived with no issues, so she said then & there to book in my 21day blood test which is tomorrow and a ultrasound to see what's going on internally.


Maybe it could be worth going and talking to your gp and air your concerns it can't do any harm.

Everyone's different and you may just be one of those who has regular dips and rises in the luteal phase. You have clear ovulation and a normal lp length. If your concerned about lack of ewcm, try preseed. Is your timing good? Have you tried every other day throughout your cycle?
Maybe you should request a semen analysis for your oh too x

That's reassuring! I didn't think the post o temps were high enough I use preseed and dtd every other day i just don't always record it because i put my temps in when i'm bleary eyed in the morning haha!

Hi i tried for my first for nearly 2 years before i went to docs but they said i could've come earlier at 1 year mark. Thy did all tests & ovulation levels were low anyway was put on clomid & conceived. Don't leave it longer than a year they will help so dont worry but if you wanna go now just say you been ttc for a year. Anyway start taking epo from cd1-ovulation it helped me conceive cycle i started it as clomid dried me up. Also used preseed

I had been following this thread as I was wondering the same but I ended up at my GP surgery today with a new GP because of an emergency issue and we spoke about TTC and she is going to look at getting bloods done etc next month so it is possible and Ive been trying 13 months so only just over 12 months. I think its worth asking x
