HSG.... Really Scared!

I also had an hsg a few weeks ago, i was so scared because i could hear the girl who went ahead of me screaming during the procedure. when it was my turn the doctor told me that it might hurt and it might not but the most important thing is to relax so that all your muscles (down there) also relax, concentrating on your breathing also helps. For me it was uncomfortable, but not painful.

omg the girl before you was screaming? :o i think i would have done a runner!

I had this done last monday. It almost felt like a regular pap test. It didnt hurt me, but everyone is differernt.

But.....

A few hours later, BAD cramping and bloating.

I just took a midol and felt better within the hour. Still bloated throughout that day, but no cramps.

If u r relaxed and dont psyche ur self beforehand HSG can be a piece of cake. I have an extremely tight vagina (so much so that even after years of fertility a doctor asked me if i've ever had penetrative sex) however the discomfort was even less than getting my arms waxed. The doctor doing the procedure commented that I cudnt feel d pain only because I was relaxed and unlike other patients had let myself loose.

I'm having my HSG done in 3 weeks and after reading all the blogs I am scared but i have to tell myself this is for a good cause. My FS said in some women it increases your chances of getting pregnant after you get the procedure done because mucus can get stuck in the tubes and the dye uncloggs it. So just think about it like this, any junk or debri that's preventing you from getting preggers can be wiped away clean, lol. I am praying for the best.

Good luck to you and let's hope for no scaring or blockage.

I think if you have pains with pap tests, then you will have pain with the HSG. It isn't unbearable though. I do suggest taking some painkillers beforehand. And do expect some bleeding; they never told me that, and its just a good thing that I carry pads in my purse at all times.

It is over fairl quickly, so that is a plus. I did almost scoot off the bed because it was so painful, but then again, I have extreme discomfort during paps.

You'll be fine though. Good luck.

Hey Mamawannabe

Will you you tell us how it goes tomorrow? I'm due to have mine first thing Tuesday morning so won't be far behind you!

Good luck, it sounds like the most important thing is to relax (never my strong point!);)

:wacko::wacko: This is how I am feeling this morning with 5 hours to go!! Just going to reamain relaxed and calm... yeah right!! Will let you know how i get on xxx

:hugs::hugs::hugs:... Thinking of you....don't forget to take a good book...or gossipy mag to take your mind off the waiting xxx

Well girls I survived !! In all fariness it wasn't too bad at all. The bit that was the worst for me was the spectulum (?). She opened it quite wide however when she could see i was in pain she loosened it off a bit. It was also not nice when I had to wriggle up the bed with the balloon and the specutulem in place!! The dye being inserted was not very pleasant and just felt VERY strange but didn't hurt as such.

I had it done about 2 hours ago and the cramps have started but its more like I would imagine contractions to be. All of sudden deep inside tenses up quite strong and within a few seconds it has passed. I have not had any bleeding at all so far.

All in all for any of you girls about to have it done - dont worry it will be fine and try not to get too worked up. I got very worked up and I dont think that helped!!!

fingers crossed for a bay although we have been told to have a break from trying this month.

xxxxxx

Glad to hear how it went and that you survived! I thought I'd check to she if you had posted before mine this morning, am trying to do the whole calm thing and your post has made me feel better! When do you get your results? And would you mind if I asked what day of your cycle you were on when you had it done? I'm on day 6 and am hoping to still be allowed to try this month!

Am now off to take some deep calming breathes!

Oh Mamawannabe Glad it is over for you and it went well....:happydance::happydance::happydance:
Did they give you your results there and then??? I was the same as you, completely nervous and apprehensive beforehand, but it turned out better than i though too xx

Good Luck with yours Springflower.... Will be thinking of you ... :flower::flower:

It really wasn't that bad at all!!! and the staff who were there were lovely. Obviously it's not the most pleasant of things but I found it easier than a smear test. I was back out within 20mins so didn't have to pay for my parking - added bonus!

I'm also very happy as they told me my tubes were fine. Have to admit I did cry then as I really had thought that they wouldn't be.:happydance:

I asked about trying and apparently we shouldn't do it whilst we are still on the tablets, if we have finished the tablets though it's fine.

Girls if you've got one soon, good luck! I found deep breathing really did work for me although I sounded ridiculous!

I am having mine tomorrow, your comments really helped. I am on day 14 tomorrow normally OV on 15 so it looks like I shall have to give TTC a miss this month :@(

Hi there,

I had mine at the end of last year and got myself so wound up about it that I lay on the bed in my hospital gown and cried before they did anything. I was so scared about the procedure but there was nothing to worry about. I felt a strange sensation when the dye was put in my tubes but it was over very quickly and wasn't painful. I personally think that the thought of it is worse than the actual procedure so try not to worry. I know it is easier said than done.

An update for you girls.... after all the supposed side affects such as bleeding, cramping, etc associated with an HSG what do I do??........End up bloody reacting to the antibiotics they gave me:dohh:.

My consultant likes to have his patients take an antibiotic just in case they have come into contact with an STI and they gave me 6 to take all in one go. Lets just say I did not move from the toilet last night and the cramps that I was getting which I thought were because of the HSG were actually the build up to some serious "toilet time"!!!

So all in all, I didn't suffer one bit from the HSG!

:thumbup:Yay... glad it went okay for you springflower and that you dont have any blockages. I was on CD10 as they said they like to do it prior to ovulation. The reason they said I should leave this month is because of the radiation that that part of my body had been exposed to - last thing we want is a baby with 6 heads!

I didn't ask for my results. I was so pleased it was over I just left without even thinking to ask! I now have to wait until we see the consultant on 11 June - ah well!

What's the next step for you - do you have any other tests?

Good luck yomo - you will be just fine. Trust me... I'm a total wimp and it wasn't too bad at all. I dont know about you but I am liking the idea of actually having a break this month. You never know we might need a break and be super relaxed for next month and it happens!!

Let us know how you get on x

I know it's not funny but that did make me laugh. After all the worry about the HSG, it's the tablets that made you ill!

Can't believe you had to take 6 at once! I've got to take 2 a day for 7 days. Was worried I would have a reaction as I'm hypersensitive to antibiotics, fingers crossed I don't end up the same as you. Poor thing!

Good luck yomo, I promise it isn't as bad as you think it will be. It was over so quickly, I didn't think it was as bad as period pain. I did take some painkillers beforehand and I think that helped. Let us know how you get on!
