HSG.... Really Scared!

I know it's not funny but that did make me laugh. After all the worry about the HSG, it's the tablets that made you ill!

Can't believe you had to take 6 at once! I've got to take 2 a day for 7 days. Was worried I would have a reaction as I'm hypersensitive to antibiotics, fingers crossed I don't end up the same as you. Poor thing!

Ha ha... I had a laugh this morning (too much pain to find it funny last night!). I think you have to laugh about these things otherwise you end up going mad. My friend said to me "only you can go for a surgical procedure and end up getting ill from the tablets!!".

Glad to hear how it went and that you survived! I thought I'd check to she if you had posted before mine this morning, am trying to do the whole calm thing and your post has made me feel better! When do you get your results? And would you mind if I asked what day of your cycle you were on when you had it done? I'm on day 6 and am hoping to still be allowed to try this month!

Am now off to take some deep calming breathes!

:thumbup:Yay... glad it went okay for you springflower and that you dont have any blockages. I was on CD10 as they said they like to do it prior to ovulation. The reason they said I should leave this month is because of the radiation that that part of my body had been exposed to - last thing we want is a baby with 6 heads!

I didn't ask for my results. I was so pleased it was over I just left without even thinking to ask! I now have to wait until we see the consultant on 11 June - ah well!

What's the next step for you - do you have any other tests?

Erk!!! They didn't say anything about radiation, I think I will give it a miss then this month!!! Have heard it helps with fertility so was excited to get started but as you say I'd rather wait until it's safe.

I have a scan booked in for the 28th April - I'm not sure what that is looking for though. I'll have to ask. Have you had that one yet? I think my problem may be with OH's sperm those test results have not been good.

They told me preivously that I wouldn't know the results until Nov (my follow up appointment) When I asked they said I could write a letter requesting the results and that they would send them to my GP. You could try that route perhaps if you want to know earlier? Once the scan is out of the way I'm going to start phoning up to see if I can get a cancellation I don't want to wait until Nov!!!!!

The internal ultra sound scan looks for ovarian cysts, PCOS and endometriosis. I am having this done on 20 May. Apparently its nothing to worry about at all and is a thin tube that is inserted just to opening of the cervix so no nasty spectulems!!!

November seems like quite a long wait. I think I will be okay waiting until June as I have a lot more blood tests and the ultra sound before then so it still feels like I am doing something.

How long have you been TTC? x

Ohh glad you told me what they do for the scan. I thought I just had to lie there, didn't occur to me that they would be inserting anything! I will let you know how that one goes!

You're right, if I was having tests until Nov I wouldn't be so bothered but as they'll all be done by the end of April it seems ridiculous to then have to wait 7 months before anyone does anything!

I came off the pill in Jan 09 but didn't start actually "actively trying" (ie clearblue moniter and all the other bits) until June 09 . We got referred early as I had clamydia previously :blush:and was worried it had affected my tubes (that's why I'm sooo relieved with my results today). But it was a good job we started as OH's sperm doesn't appear to be in great shape! I'm not sure what happens if it's just his sperm that is the problem.

How about you?

We have been trying since September 08 and because I am so impatient as soon as we got to the 18month point I went to the Dr's.My husband has two children from a previous marriage and whilst that was a while ago I guess we know his swimmers can work. I have had the blood tests and obviuosly the HSG and have the internal ultra sound on 20 May.

Have you tried asking your partner to take multi vitamins? Mine takes the Sanatogen father to be ones. I think there re things that can be done to help improve the sperm function so dont give up hope.

I am quite worried about Chlamydia. One of my ex-partners had numerous sexual affairs none of which he used protection for whilst of course I was also having unprotected sex with him. I know its something I should have got checked out at the time but it is very embarassing (a poor excuse I know ). I am just hoping that everything is okay in this respect.

my sister had IVF years ago with an ex partner, his sperm were in bad shape apparently and she said there were 3 particular vitamins they put him on for 3 months to help improve the health of the sperm, i can try and find out what they were if you want :)

and the trans-vaginal ultra scan is a breeze compared to the HSG haha so no need to worry about that one. they just insert a thin probe and push around a bit, it doesnt seem half as invasive

Hey!

OH has been very good with taking vitamins, he now has Selenium, Zinc, and Pycnogenol every day. He has also stopped smoking. Drink is harder though as there always seems to be something that needs to be celebrated. I think it's harder for blokes as well, socialising revolves around drinking.

Our problem with the swimmers has come as a big shock. When he was younger he got someone pregnant so we were so surprised when those results weren't good. Hopefully the vitamins will help!

I think you would know by now if you had it. I'm also pretty sure that they test you for STD's when they are checking fertility as well. You could always get a test from Boots - I think they sell them now. Much less embarassing! You will probably feel better once you know for certain.

Just read my post back what with the Chlamydia and pregnancy, OH and I must look like a right pair!!

Ohh would you mind asking your sister, I'd be interested to know what he took.

I've just checked my letter for the scan, appareently it doesn't matter if you are on your period when they do it. That sounds a bit grim ladies!!!

Tell you what after we all finally get pregnant and give birth it should be a walk in the park after all these tests! :winkwink:

Well Ladies I made it out alive! I don't know what I was worrying for it was a walk in the park, to be honest I didn't feel a thing.

Both tubes ok and if full working order so thats good but what is next?

So thats 3 and 21 bloods ok, SA ok, and now HSG ok I am confused.

How are you lovely ladies today anyways?

Glad you survived it  It's not that bad is it? And great news that the tubes are fine, you must be relieved. It's another one to tick off! I think you've probably got a scan next, that seems to be the order. The good news is I've heard they aren't painful, so there is nothing to worry about there!

I'm good thanks, REALLY looking forward to the weekend!!

thanks all for your posts! i have my hsg scheduled for next wednesday april 21. was a little nervous but will be glad to be over with it and have the results so we can move on to baby making!! as long as results are good, i am starting my clomid next cycle:)

:rofl::rofl:I read that in my letter too and said to DH there is no way I am having anyone furkling around in my bits and pieces when its my time of the month.... that's just disgusting!

Oooh I'm not so sure about a walk in the park springflower... if I got that nervous with an HSG what am I going to be like in labour? Then again once its in there its got to come out!!!

I dont think you are a right pair - chlamydia can affect anyone and as to your other half getting someone pregnant these things happen and when you are young you just dont think. No judgement pased from me.

How are you today? I have been feeling a bit low since the HSG I dont know if anyone else has expreienced the same? I think I was traking all this testing quite lightly and due to the intrusiveness and I think also because I didnt ask about the results there and then I just feel a bit bogged down with all this. Then again maybe I am just in a grump in general... have a girly evening tonight and as we aren't able to try this month I think a few extra drinkies might be in order!!! :happydance:

:happydance:Yay! That's another of us ladies safely through!! Have you had your internal ultrasound yet? That looks for PCOS and endometriosis. I dont know about you ladies but part of me wants them to find something so that I am able to do something about it. My owrst nightmare is going into the unexplained category.

We have a nice group here where we are all around the similar point in tests... maybe we could set up a group.. no too sure how to do it or we could just carry on with this thread??

xx

Glad we could help. As you can see its nothing to worry about and you must let us know how you got on so we can add another pain free success story!! How come you have been prescribed clomid if you dont mind me asking... are you ovulating?

oh my word im so pleased i found this thread! I have to book my hsg when af arrives! (no idea when! currently on cd 31 :S). Are you allowed someone in with you?

Hello! My mum was able to come down tot he room with me but had to wait outside because
Of possible radiation levels. In all fairness because you are fairly exposed I am not sure I would
have wanted anyone in with me! Let us know how you get on you will be fine. Xx

thats great news! :happydance:

yeah i would imagine like springflower said you'll probably be sent for the ultra sound scan next which is much less invasive. they check your uterus shape and size and make sure its all normal and healthy and then poke about a bit to see your ovaries and check for cysts. they cant check for endo in a scan, only a lap can do that :)
