hi. after several years of trying to conceive me and hubby are having tests done at mo. i have my hsg test 2morow afternoon and need some advice. xx

It'll be fine - promise.
I had a nice warm bath in the morning so i felt fresh as a daisy but didn't take any painkillers beforehand as was told not to.
The consultant did it in the radiographer room, lying flat on a bed with my legs either side and she raised the bed up so she was eye level.
It felt like a smear - a little pinch when the catheter went through the neck of the cervix and then a little crampy like the first day of your period.
Main bit of advice from me is to do controlled breathing - i breathed in through my nose, out through my mouth and that way i wasn't tense - if you are tense then it can be uncomfortable.
Whole procedure took about 10mins all in all and afterwards they gave me a sanitary pad.
Got home, the dye was like a thick sticky substance so had hot bath, couple of paracetamol and i was good as gold. Minor spotting and back to :sex: a day later as per the FS instructions! :hugs:

hi..ta for advice. doesnt sound to bad. my hubby is taking me but i understand he has to wait in waiting room. nervous to see if tubes are blocked.. realy cant stop worrying about that xx

hey. You'll be fine. Take a paracetamol or nurofen 30min b4 and take a sanitary pad with you! Oh and don't forget to take your antibiotics! Good luck! p.s it was uncomfortable but not painfull for me.

Good luck! I agree that it was uncomfortable. The only part that was really bad was when they inflated the balloon. I had awful cramps for a few seconds, but it was fine afterwards. I was told to take ibuprofin an hour before. Definitely bring a sanitary napkin, as you may have leakage afterwards. Hope it goes well and your tubes look great! xx

Sounds like it depends on the clinic. I was told to take 2 nurofen one hour before hand and DH was allowed to come in and hold my hand :). They gave me a sanitary napkin once it was over. I found it to be quite crampy...not very comfortable at all and I did a bit of breathing to get myself through it. The whole thing probably takes around 10 - 15mins, so not too long and its good to know if there is or is not a problem going on. As for me, my results came back as everything was good which I thought was great! Then my Specialist recommended a lap...didn't see that one coming! Good luck and I know you'll be ok as we are women :hugs:, it'll be over before you know it!

hi there...i had 1 done last monday & i promise it really is nothing to worry about :) I found it didnt hurt, just mild crampy feeling when she blew the balloon up but only lasted a few seconds. my husband was luckily allowed in, i wanted him to be there when i got the results...he watched the screen when the dye was going thru the tube too. i wasnt given any antibiotics....are you meant to????? also to lioness....y was u asked to have a lap if everything was ok??? im seeing the fs on the 22nd oct...altho everything was fine with the tube & dye went thru it do you think they will advise me to have a lap & dye too???? i assumed all was fine xx

Dancingkaty, everything came back fine, but my Specialist said that I fell (and still do fall) into the unexplained category. He said he finds that 70% of ladies who fall into this category have endometriosis of some degree, even if they don't know they have it. So he wanted to do a lap to have a look around and remove any if its there. I did actually have a small uterine septum they saw on the scan but he said this shouldn't affect your ability to conceive, but he said he will remove that while he was there (as it can cause m/c).

I guess it depends on the results of all test and your FS as to where they recommend you go next. As for me he did find a significant amount of endo which I didn't know I had, which he removed. Alot of ladies don't have a lap straight away...their specialist suggest other avenues first. I hope I haven't worried you, this is just where things went for me. Hang in there and take it one day at a time :hugs:

Hi ladies, I have had an HSG test, took painkillers an hour before and it was fine. The hardest bit was worrying in advance what the results would be - I found it helpful, before the procedure got started, to ask the doctor whether she would explain what she saw as she went along or afterwards, and when her report would go to my consultant.

Thanks for this ladies, will the report be over to my consultant a week later you think??
Only i go back to see the consultant a week ltr?
xx

I am so worried about the results i have a real horrible feeling something is wrong?? Is this me thinking this or did anyone else think the same?
xx

well thanxu all. well had the hsg test this afternoon ...truth...yep it was painfull! my left tube is open but on right tube ...it didnt "spill out"...mixed reaction realy as dont have hospital app for informal chat till start of december and left wondering?? the nurse said u can still become pregnat with one tube open so how is it that iv been trying for years and still nothin! xx

Hi - just wanted to say thanks for posting this and to all the ladies who replied.
I was supposed to have mine this month but they couldn't fit me in so I'll be going in a few weeks time.
