Just a quick question. Got to go for a HSG in next few days will i need a day off work or do you think i could go to work after? What have3 been peoples experience of having these done? How long does it take to recover?

Thanks in advance

Hi hun

I felt rotton afterwards - a bit more than I do at the time of the month. Sometimes I throw up at the beginning of AF and I did this after my HSG, but I just went to bed and slept it off. I was back in work the next day and was fine. I've heard taking painkillers beforehand helps.

Good luck and my best advice is try to relax

well i took the day of for the day of the procedure ...( to my opinion it was painful ..when they inject the ink...lucky did not last long ) you have the satisfaction to hear if your tubs are blocked or clear right away so that was good...

i had no bleeding or discharge afterward but most people do...i think you want to rest still for the day ...avoid going to work :) just relax for the day...

good luck darling !

Thanks guys was hoping i could go back into work since i have had so kmuch time off for all these tests and things i am running out of excuses now for them :( Thanks anyway, will probably see how i feel after then and just ring into work and make an excuse if it is going to be too uncomfortable

Looks like its time for me to get my little book of "day off work" excuses out. Any ideas? I am thinking either "appointment at hospital for womens problems" or a more simple "food posioning" option? :)

I took the day off work and was a little uncomfortable afterwards but to be honest, I could have gone into work. Probably varies from person to person - plus depends what your job is... if its something where you're on your feet, I'd say take the day off no questions.

I'd probably just say its a hospital appt. I told them I had to have a small procedure done and no one asked for any more detail than that!! Although they know I have endo so they generally assume its ongoing treatment for that.

Good luck

xx

Thanks

I think i am going to play it by ear (or should that be pelvis, uterus or cervix?) hmmmmmmmmm :)

I just rang to make appointment and asked if i would be ok to go to work she said in there experience 9/10 people are fine afterwards. I may have slight discomfort but not enough to not go to work. So will just see how it goes. Will tell work i have a doc appointment as some test results have come back and its only one i could get after xmas and new year hols and then try go into work after. I am not on my feet so should not be a problem. If I feel rubbish i will just sneak out and go home my boss doesnt notice i am there or not most of the time so i am quite lucky with that as he is always in meetings. So now roll on monday to get it over with.

Thanks anyway. Will let you all know how it was for future reference for others who may be concerned about going to work.

I would def take the day off Hun - I took some painkillers about an hour before having mine done, and was sooo glad I did now. It felt like the worst AF cramp I have ever had after the procedure. Had some more painkillers later, but felt fine the next day HTH and Good Luck

I know what you mean chocci .....people at work get so suspicious and may start asking questions...well to be honest after I had my HSG I could have gone in to work....but cos I travel 200miles for work I just told my boss I would work from home so when I got home I was on the e-mail working from home. So really you can go back to work after...just make sure you take painkillers before the test 30-60minutes before cos it hurts when they put the catheter in ....its just like period pain....real bad cramps....but my nurse was good and held on to my hand
