Hey Girls,
Well as many of you know i've been trying for nearly 2 years now. The witch just showed early after a real bad month and now i can phone the hospital back and get this HSG booked once and for all.
I don't really know what to expect though and i'm so scared it's going to show up a problem.
If any of you have been through this and can give me advice on what to expect or to tell me if it's true that the HSG gives you increased fertility after the "clean out" i'd love to hear from you!

I had one done but this was years ago and was pre TTC days.

You basically lay on a table in all your glory while they stick something up you to shoot dye around which will show any blockages or other problems (however not as accurate as a lap as this can see much more). For me personally, it really hurt but I also have a condition that causes contracting of 'down there' and this is why it really hurt me.

I know its scary at the thought of them finding something, but if they do you will then know what the next step of your journey will be.

As far as it making your more fertile for a few months, I thought this was only done with a D&C which they won't do unless you're under a general anaesthetic.

I just booked mine for Friday. If I have it before you, I'll let you know how it went.

mine did hurt as well ...just when they injected the ink ...but did not last long...

i did not have any discharges or bloody discharges afterward but some women do...

my OBGYN did told me that you are most likely to be more fertile for a good 6 months afterward as it clean you up a little...

good luck sweetie!

thanks girls, that's a great help. i've called the hospital and it may be thursday or next tuesday depending on availability so we will see. I'll kepe you posted.

ok all booked in for Tuesday 20th at 3pm. Although now i'm concerned they've said i shouldn't try until next cycle due to the radiation my eggs will have been exposed to!

Hmm, I'll have to ask my doctor about that because there was no mention of radiation when I scheduled mine. That's a pretty important detail to leave out!

My HSG did hurt a bit, but only while they were pushing in the dye. I think it's because it goes in under pressure.
They do say that you have an increased chance of gettting pregnant for up to three months after the HSG, but that didn't work for me.
What I would advise is that you take a sanitary towel with you for after, because what goes in has to come out (sorry TMI!!!).
Good luck hun.

I had a HYCOSY which is where they do the dye using an ultrasound machine. Everything showed up fine and that very cycle I conceived. I firmly believe it gave me a good clear out. I was concerned about the dye and whether it might affect anything but I have been assured that's not the case.

Good luck with you HSG. I hope you get a positive result.

lots of good stories so it's filling me with confidence thansk girls!

4 days to go! ARGH
I'm starting to feel a lot more comfortable and postive about this. It's going to be ok!

I had my test today and my DR. said my tubes are "beautiful". I am glad it's over and everything is okay. It was definitely uncomfortable and it hurt a bit when they put the dye in, but it wasn't unbearable. I kept telling myself that if I want to have a baby and go through the pain of labor, I can handle a little tube and some dye! I asked about TTC and she said I can get on with it (even tonight if I'm feeling up to it!) She told me that many women get pregnant within a few months after the HSG because everything gets cleaned out. I hope that is the case for us! ~Jen

thanks hun so glad you got good results! how do you feel now?
i'm feeling real positive about tomorrow it's going to be fine!

Good luck for tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you x

I had minor cramps for a few days, but I feel fine now. I still have very light spotting. Good luck tomorrow! I'm sure it will go well. Let us know what happens... :hugs:

I'm sure you will be fine hun. Good luck for tomorrow.

thanks girls.
feeling even more positive now - got my high on monitor today so only days away from my PEAK YAY

I got told that for a couple of months afterwards it can make you more fertile.
One tip have a couple of pain killers an hour before, not sure if this helps but my fertility nurse told me to do this.
For me it was like a shooting period pain when they injected the dye, the pain went pretty much straight the way after.
