Well, ok, maybe not a million but lots definatly so any help is much appreciated.

* Can Brooke go into a highchair before she is able to sit unaided??If no, where am I going to put her to wean her? I dont want her in a bumbo at ALL but she only has a bouncy chair that can be made static-but no tray obv. will this be ok?

* I want to do babyled weaning with Brooke-I at least want to try her with it and if it doesnt work, then so be it. Thing is, Brooke is 5 months old (on Friday! :cloud9:) but only 3.5 corrected. Does this make a difference and make her too young? :baby:

*I know my HV are not going to be very supportive of baby-led weaning. I have 3 weeks before I have a specialist appt at the hospital for her development due to her being prem but im under MAJOR MAJOR pressure to wean her now. Every week I argue with my HV!! Should I just not say anything and start her or be honest from the outset and tell them what Im going to do? I know they're going to try and talk me out of it but expecting it anyway.

*Brooke is able to reach for toys that are hanging and pull them towards her. Is this enough co-ordination for baby-led?

*EDITED TO ADD; We are going to my sisters wedding in Spetember-Brooke will be 8.5months old by then. Do you think there will be something suitable for Brooke to eat or should I take things with us? Also the highcahr thin-if Brooke isnt sitting by then whaat should I do with her at the table?!!!

Oh man its very confusing :dohh: TIA ladies! xx

Hi hun. I am a great fan of BLW, but don't know much about it for preemies. So I'll just quote some things out of the BLW bible, if thats ok!

"Premature babies may also have different needs when it comes to introducing solids, but it really depends on how many weeks premature the bby was. While a pregnancy of 36 or 37 weeks can be considered almost full term, one of only 27 weeks clearly cannot. Also many premature babies are not just born early but are also extremely small, or even ill, or there may be reasons why they were born early that have a bearing on their later development. Clearly. one recommendation won't do for them all."

It goes on to basically say that you should seek medical advice before starting BLW as a sole method. They may need a short period of purees before embarking on the full method. They may need additional nutrients before they can physically start BLW, due to not enough time in the womb to build up these reserves.

Do you have access to more than one HV? We have 3, so I only go to clinic when I know that the 1 that does BLW is on duty. I hope you manage to find some answers hun x x:hug:

Forgot to say, that your baby shoud be able to sit up with very little or no support.

thanks Kat I was hoping you'd see the post, you little baby-led guru, you!

Ill ask one of the not-so-fearsome HV on Thursday then I think. I usually end up leaving more confused than when I went in tbh but I guess Ill give it a whirl and see how I get on.

Thanks again sweetie xx

For the highchair ours reclined a bit so we used that our a bouncer chair too so that's fine :)

I've never done full BLW so I can't help much there but as for your HV I would tell her you will do it when you feel she is ready and how you want to and to just lay off. At the wedding I would really go off how she is doing the week before that, if she's eating well then I bet you will be able to find something she will try, maybe bring some snacks just in case though?

Good luck

Just remember that for several months yet, milk is still her primary source of nutrition, so if she isn't inhaling huge quantities of solids, don't worry! Just go with the flow and try and make your HV see sense!!

Hiya i dont do BLW but just wanted to let you know bout these high chairs that can be used from birth:

We have this one - thanks to Mervsmumj for the tip off! It's fab, as you can put it on a chair for family meal times, or on the floor if you want to chill and eat! We have breakfast on the floor together and lunch and dinner at the table.
