I know they are only doing there job but ARGHHHHH

O and we never accepted anything other than citizen cards, driving licences and passports. Got loads of bs over that as well as many people thought that student, library or army id cards could be used for some reason

Apart from passports and driving licences we don't have any nationally recognised photo ID in the UK. Which was my point in my first post. The ID culture would be fine if we had the hardware to go with it. The Labour government was planning to introduce ID cards (though I think that was actually largely about foreign visitors rather than nationals) but there was huge outcry about the terrible effect such a thing would have on our civil liberties so it's been scrapped immediately by the new government. lol

Hm that's strange! Civil liberties? Some people are far too extreme to compare a basic (non-mandatory) photo ID card (often used here by teens who are 16 but aren't interested in a driver's license, or by people on temporary visas and can't drive but need some form of ID for a short 1-2 year stay in the country) - to what, something reminiscent of WWII Germany? Eek!

Iv never realy understood the objection against a national photo id, if iv done nothing wrong then I have no objection to being asked to prove my id.

Yeah I didn't mind either. Figured it would make a lot of things easier, both for consumers and people policing the laws.

Maybe it was all the people that didnt want their real id known that objected to them :)
after all it would realy bugger superman and batman up :)

Lol, I'm actually someone that objected to the ID card system for a number of reasons. Top of my list though was the fact that I don't trust the government to not lose my information by accidently leaving it on a bus or something equally stupid. There were also a lot of questions about who would have access to our information. And then of course there was the fact that we were expected to pay for it.

We have to pay for driving licences, passports and citizens cards so really we already pay for our ID. I guess I'm not much precious about my details. lol But I think it wasn't intended as a national scheme for everyone anyway.

i get id'ed ALL the time, despite being covered in tattoos and imo clearly over 21
