I know they are only doing there job but ARGHHHHH

In my shop, if I think you are buying for someone else I can refuse to serve you. It's technical term at work is "selling by proxy". I know that is different to the situation you are talking about though.

I understand that it's annoying for people to get ID'd so I always almost act apolgetically when I ask. "Don't mean to be a pain but I don't suppose you've got your ID on you?" That way I am asking for proof of their age rather than implying that they are not old enough, if that makes sense!?

Atleast you have manners hun.

Most all you get is

'HAVE YOU GOT ID' barked in your face i can almost feel the aggrensiveness!!

ive also worked in nightclubs so i no how important it is to id people and the worsed thing is to refuse to serve someone when theyve had enough as i didnt wana be done for manslaughter if they left and fell and killed themselves because they were too drunk.

but id'ing people that are with the one who is buying the booze in a shop really gets my goat, it really is a stupid rule lol

I do agree for the purpose of a shop its is silly to have to id others with the buyer as its nothing to do with the shop what is done with it after leaving the premasis, plus anyone with 2 brain cells would wait elsewhere while getting someone to buy alcohol for them :)

Our place is slightly different as we dont have to id others because we get alot of families in and it would just be a nightmare plus its alot easier for us to see if someone is giving alcohol to someone underage at the table.

A shop cant realy see what is being done with it further down the road but again its not their problem as long as the buyer was id'd IMO.

Agree with this, all my friends turned 18 before me so i would always wait outside the shop because i knew i would get ID'd as well. Even if they were buying booze not for me (ie when i was pregnant!) i would wait outside because i wouldnt want them to get turned down because of me. If they got turned down i would blame myself for being underage not the person ID'ing us doing there job. JMO

I think I love my job too much, I realy dont mind doing that especialy with the drunk idiots who forget that they just asked you 2 minures ago and come back yet again, They give you this kinda "you look familier" look then a cheesy grin like they can get away with it :)
Luckely we very rarely get any trouble from refusal, most make us laugh.

He sat quietly and waited his turn after that :)

my nan always said she was 23, so shed of loved it if she got asked for id lol not that shed have any lol

Well I'm happy to report that I've just been to the local pub and not been ID'd :happydance: :haha:

I think the worst are the whiney little pricks who ARE underage moaning about being asked for ID. If they didn't try it on so friggin often then people wouldn't have to be so cautious!

I remember getting asked for ID in a hoity toity way when my OH wanted a bottle of cider. I got arsey (very hormonal day) and asked if our daughter needed ID too. She said "well of course not". I informed her that I was quite clearly pregnant and not stupid enough to booze whilst carrying a baby. Did she really think it necessary to ask me? I told her I wanted to see her manager and told him exactly what I told her. He said all the member of staff only needed to ask my OH for ID as I really was clearly pregnant and not, in fact, smuggling a football. So my OH got his booze and I got smug, much to the annoyance of the staff member.
If she wasn't arsey with me in the first place I wouldn't have been a bigger bitch back lol.

DH works in a store. The FINES are steep not to mention loosing his job, getting arrested.

DH got yelled at by his boss once - normally doesn't work the register but he was and asked for ID - they didn't have it. Boss said he just lost them $50 worth of sales. So to make a point DH asks EVERYONE and even carded a lady with her birth year being 1922 - she thought it was so funny she gave him a tip. LOL

Those who will be happy not to be IDed will then think hey wait - do I look old? You can't win!

Just thought of something - we can get alcohol on our online shop. No ID there.

They are supposed to ID you when they drop the order off. I got ID'd a few weeks back even though I never ordered any alcohol and I am 22!

A few weeks after we got back from holiday i went to get my OH some beers from the co-op as i then had some i.d, it was the 1st time i'd used it in the shop as i'd just got my passport new for going abroad, i'll admit i do look young, i even get i'd'd for lottery tickets and i'm 22 lol  so anyways i get asked for i'd, i had my passport over and the young woman behind the till looked at it an pulled a confused face, then went over to the other woman that was behind the till and asked if she thought "the photo was me as she didn't believe my age" and the woman said yeah it was me, and then the woman who was serving me said "well i don't think so" but then served me anyways.. but since that day she hasn't said anything else and often doesn't i.d me now as i've been in a few times in the past year lol.

I dont think its right to not have to id a pregnant person, not all are sensible, intelligent or even give a cr*p in some cases.
Just because someone is pregnant you cant assume they clearly are not going to be drinking and should still be asked id, even more so if it prevents an underaged pregnant girl getting drunk.

exactly!!!

ive served pregnant women who have stepped out the door and then lit up and have seen pregnant women drinking so im not going to assume all pregnant women hace the commen sense to not do those things
