I have my appointment for next month to start ICSI. I was wondering is anyone can tell me what to expect, what happens etc.

I have PCOS and not ovulating DH has a low count.

Will we have more tests or will be be put on medication straight away. I would really appreciate your experiences so I know what to expect.

Thank you

hello

if it is your 1st appointment the fertility specialist might what to do some test as that's what my hospital did with me. on my 1st appointment the doctor went through all the forms we had to fill out and through the icsi with us and told us both that we had to have bloods taken and hubby had to have SA done again which wasn't taken there and then had we to go bk for bloods and SA at a later date. be prepared have a sit down and think of all the question u want to ask before you go and write them down cos you may just forget just like i did lol

hope this helps if u have any question plz mail me

Hi

I would say that if they have already decided you need ICSI that you will be given a time scale of when you can start treatment. Our first app with the consultant was just a chat but she hadn't decided we needed ICSI at that point. The next app we had I had loads of bloods taken and DH had to do a sperm test. Then we were told when they could do our treatment and to ring that month when af arrived.

Good luck.

xx

The FS has already put us through the test all ready HSG, internal ultrasound, DH sample and blood tests. The FS said the only option we have is ICSI due to DH low count. I'm not ovulating hence no AF's either

Hi Aclio. ICSI is the same as IVF in the medication and prodedures, apart from the sperm are injected into the eggs, rather than allowing the sperm to fertilize the eggs themselves.

Sounds like you have had all the relevant tests. Once we had the tests, we then had to have an appointment to sign lots of forms and discuss the treatment, then I was told to ring in on day one of my period to start the drugs on day 21 of my cycle.

Hope this helps. I had ICSI in Jan, so feel free to ask any more questions and I'll try and answer them :flower:

caline - thank you for posting. I think I will have to been given something to bring AF on as they are none existant at the moment I had to be given something to have the HSG. I guess thats why I was surprised when the FS didn't give me something to bring AF and ov on to start the ball rolling.

What drugs do they give you on day 21? I've read some where about injections do they do that at the hospital?

It's really kind of you to help when you have been through so much yourself. I don't know what the last entry on your ticker is. How are you coping?
xx

Aclio,

It depends on whether you've had all the tests done before the referral. Usually at the first consultation for IVF, they will give you details about the process - what it is, how it works, etc.

You're then be told to call in on Day 1 of your next cycle, or the one after, depending on if they have a slot to fit you in.

All the best!

peartree - I've had bloods, HSG, internal ultra sound etc

I can't phone them on the 1st day of my cycle though, my last AF was brought on by tablets for the HSG
