Does anyone know the statistics on ICSI?

What's involved?

We're considering going private for ICSI but not sure if I could emotionally take the disappointment of it failing or the financial disappointment!

Has anyone had it done privately?

How much did you pay and where do you live? :)

Thanks x

Well we have just completed our first ICSI. It is eleven days past embryo transfer and I got a positive yesterday!!

The only difference bewteen standard ivf and icsi is that the sperm is injected directly into the egg, all other procedures are exactly the same. The sperm are injected as icsi is used in male factor cases, when there has been a poor fertilisation rate previously or when it is male and female infertility.

We went private and our treatment cost around £5,000 but it varies really depending on the clinic. Could be between £4,000 and £7,000. We live in the UK.

The statistics are as good as standard IVF and in some clinics better. Although, like standard IVF the chance of success varies, it is also dependent on other things like age of the female etc... Hope that helps :hugs:

That helps, thanks!

Congrats to you!!!

I live in the UK too. Want to see the cheapest I could get it for really. Seems silly when you're private paying up to £7k when you get can it for £4-5k.

I'd be petrified of it not working or mc I think. The financial burden is so high. How did you decide to go for it? I need some courage at the moment! x

Thank-you!! I was totally petrified of it not working too. Still am petrified of something happening. In fact the night before I got my BFP I cried and was stressed to the max but the thought of having a lovely baby to hold pulls you through.

I just thought about the money we'd spend on holidays and the house and all those material things. No where near the value of a little life. I thought well no holidays for a few years and that's it paid really!! We had no luck conceiving naturally and were told we would need assisted conception.

I knew it could be a long process if waiting on the NHS etc so we got the ball rolling straight away. When we heard the length of waiting list we went private. And I'm delighted we did. :hugs:

Ibet you are! Congrats hunni again!

I'm going to research into the costings. How did you choose where to go? Was it solely on price or successrate?

Do you know what the success rate is if you're under 30?

Also I've read donating some eggs can make treatment cheaper, is this something you considered. I wonder how much this affects the cost.

Hi im in N Ireland and new to ICSI (first cycle). Not much choice over here for clinics but its costing us £4300 ish. Success rates for my age (over 35) are 1 in 5 i think!

I too am from Northern Ireland and like Angel says we have little choice. One hospital where you can join the NHS waiting list, letter of offer is around 12 months or you can join their self-funded list.

Only other option for us is a private clinic without a waiting list. So that's where I went. The main reason being because I'd be seen sooner. It did have good success rates, for women under 35 they had about a 40% success rate.

Too be honest I wouldn't egg share but that was just a personal decision. Not anything wrong with it or that doesn't mean it's not best for you. DH and I just decided not to. Plus for us we weren't allowed to with our first cycle anyway.

You could check out the hfea website to look at UK clinc success rates. Think it's www.hfea.gov.uk

Hi

We have just completed our first round of IVF ICSI and are 5 weeks pregnant we did it privately all up the cost was nearly $8,000 AUD but we got $1800 back from medicare and medicare to pay nearly $4000 for the gap you just need to have the upfront payment and hospital fees!Which was $5600 for cycle and $2200 for hospital for the egg collection. I was lucky with the hormones only got slight headaches however was agitated easly! Good luck :winkwink:

Hi, our next ICSI will cost £4500. This assumes having 5 day blasts to transfer. If there arent any, they refund an amount (about £400 I think). The cost of the drugs is an extra to this and will depend on your protocol, how you respond etc. We were told it could be anywhere between £800 - £1500. We have sourced them ourselves and not through the clinic to keep costs down.

Good luck x
