Does anyone know how much the limits are on earnings for claiming income support.

I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and had planned on claiming from then. This was however before my hubby got a full time summer job. He only started on Monday, and we're far from sound even with his money as it's only for 3 months but it's well paid (£300+/week gross). He's a student, so hasn't technically earned anything for 3 years, but now I'm thinking that when they ask me about household income etc, it's going to look like we're loaded, when in fact, we still haven't received a penny and I'm living hand to mouth. An extra little bit while I'm too big to work or while LO is still tiny would be really useful.

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect tomorrow when I call?

Not eligible as up to 4 weeks ago I was on JSA but wasn't getting anywhere so gave up. Was told that I would get IS but had a feeling that hubby's job would stop that.

Wondering if maybe when he stops in September I could claim, but by then I wont be pregnant so technically could work.

*sigh* oh well. Never mind. I suppose with that kind of money coming in with CTC, CB and a little bit of HB (although that will probably stop too thinking about) it may be ok. Not sure if he can get WTC as he's a student, but may give them a call next week to see once he has his first payslip.

Whoever said that you could 'live off the social' never obviously tried to lol :haha:

BTW just wanted to say, I am still looking for work to do from home and trying my own ways to make ends meet. I am NOT 'trying to live off the social' - I was being facetious...just before anyone wants to have a go about 'that's not what it's there for'. Sorry if I offended, was making a rather bad taste joke.

Hi hun, I have just had to make a claim for IS as my maternity leave has finished, I have been made redundant but start college in September. You can claim IS until children are 5 so they told me xx

I am on ESA but was told that going on Income Support is pointless (this by the job centre person.) as I will be £100 worse off a week.:dohh: You will only get £71 a week depending on your age. Also now your partner is earning that much they wont help. You should be eligible for child tax credits and benefit.

Thanks everyone. Yes, IS was a no-go. Still to get hubby to call tax credit people (don't think I can do it for him ) but he's on 4 consecutive 12hour days now so will have to wait until next week.

Still not sure if he's entitled or not. I can't see a reason why not but at the same time, entitled to is saying no.

He'll be earning £350net a week (works out at about 18k a year) but this is summer only and will drop to £50 a week net in term time.

Still, at least I now know what to expect when LO arrives in August lol.

I would go back on JSA then you should be able to claim mayernity allowance.

Yes. You pay national insurance while on JSA which means you should qualify for maternity allowance. I didn't mean at the same time.

This is the 'employment rule' as they call it on that site. As far as I'm aware because I was on MA previously, then went onto JSA and was unsuccessful in finding employment, I technically haven't been 'employed' during my 66 week test period so therefore am not eligible to apply for MA. Instead I would go onto IS if my hubby hadn't got his job.

You must have been employed and/or self-employed for at least 26 weeks in your 66 week test period. The 26 weeks do not have to be in a row and it does not matter how much you earn. You do not have to be actually physically at work to be employed or self-employed; you might be off work sick or have been on Statutory Maternity Leave for an earlier pregnancy for example.

Ah. Didn't realise you had been on MA previously. I had assumed you were working. If you have been in JSA during the period you should be okay, but it will of course depend how long you were on it for. If it was say just three months then no, you are right. If it was the length of the 'test period' then you could have claimed it. Count JSA as 'employment' for this purpose.

Is it worth continuing on JSA then relook at it if OH doesn't get a job after the summer? Surely you should get IS if he's not working after the summer? Oh and has your oh looked at tax credits etc. I'm not sure of the salary boundaries for this?

ordinarily from JSA you get put onto IS from 29 weeks.

Would that not only be if your partner had no/low income too?

I have no idea about what you may get but just wanted to say that you can call tax credits and give them your partners income/figures. My OH has never spoken to them as i deal with it all. Thought it might speed things along if you new this!

yes it would. But what i was meaning was you don't go from JSA to MA, regardless of income

Awesome, thanks - I'll do that today otherwise it will never happen! :haha:

Thanks, don't worry. Thanks for trying to help.

I'm onto the tax credits but the calculators are all saying no so I'm not sure.

I've come off JSA as I was getting no-where and I'm not able to sign back on for 6 months I think they said. I hated it anyway and couldn't morally continue to sign on as I just wasn't looking by the end. 30 weeks today.......in a few weeks time this will all seem insignificant! lol

Sorry, I must be confused. If you are JSA and pregnant you can claim MA from the 11th week (i.e. 29th week) before your baby is born (assuming you meet all the working criteria etc.) Are we both basicially saying the same thing, but we both have confusion with each others posts :haha::haha:

I can understand it being quite demoralising! Good luck with everything!
