LO was diagnosed with silent reflux last Friday and was out on baby gaviscon to see if it helped. It seems to be helping so far, a lot less crying from him and slowly seeing results. However, I am concerned about the dosage of the gaviscon. The doctor told me based on his weight that he should be having 2 sachets (one double sachet) every feed. It also says on the actual packet that babies over 10lb, which he is, should be taking 2 sachets per feed. The thing that I am concerned about is that it says to mix each single sachet with 4oz of milk, and LO is only on 5 oz a feed. I have been mixing the 2 with 5oz and LO seems happy with it and seems to be helping him. I am going to contact docs about dosage tomo but would you say it is fine to be giving it to him in this dose or I should be mixing it with 8oz instead? I don't want to be wasting 3oz of formula but obviously will be doing so if needs be xx

I'm going to be honest I ignored the dose on the instructions & gave as little as possible that worked. We started off with 2 sachets but found that 1 sachet worked just as well in 6oz of milk for us.

I'd experiment but not give more than recommended if that makes sense? So I'd try with 1 sachet in the 5oz & see if that works just as well x

I don't know if this helps but when breastfeeding and administering infant gav it advises to mix up the amount of sachets with a few (3?) tsps of water and give it to them halfway through a feed... Breastfed babies never tend to take more than 4/5oz at a time so surely that advice means that two sachets would be fine?

The only thing I can think of is perhaps breastmilk is a little more hydrating than formula so perhaps feed cooled, boiled water in between feeds if you find you need the two sachets? I know it makes my little girl super constipated, so we try to give her as little as is necessary to stop her projectile vomiting her milk across my carpet :dohh:

We had this issue too, I used one sachet at first in 5oz bottle but it didn't work so we upped it to the two sachets. Sadly didn't work for us but if it's working for you that's great, try dropping to one sachet if it still works fab if not the. Keep going with the double sachet in 5oz.

we always used two after 10lb and he never ever went over 5oz of milk

The dosage goes by baby's weight, not by how much milk they have, - so I'd say stick to 2 sachets :-)

It must be fine as breast feeding mums are advised to mix 1 sachet with 15 mls of water. My boy will not take any of it at all with water so I was told to mix it with 5ml water and 10ml breast milk.
