Introduce your VIP (Very Important Preemie!)

I am not new to bnb but realised I have never introduced my VIPs.

My twin daughters were born on 10/01/10 at 25+2.

My second twin Rebecca weighed 1lb 6oz and sadly joined the angels on 11/01/10. She is forever loved and missed and we cherish the 1 day she was with us.

My first twin Holly weighed 1lb 7oz. She had a grade IV IVH on her left side which happened in utero and not a result of being born early. She was in 100 days and in that time she had a broken arm due to being breech, sepsis, TPN burn on her foot and had her own personal flight from Bristol to Edinburgh! So far we are seeing no effects of her IVH but know we still have a long way to go. From 9 months corrected she has been crawling, pulling herself up and saying mama, dada & baba. She is still tiny as she isn't even 15lb yet but when you try to take something off her she is as strong as an ox

I am hoping 2011 isnt quite as stressful!

Good luck for the review - and with the teething. When they try and convince me there is such a thing as intelligent design I always point to teething as the best argument against it, it is truly such a horrible thing for the wee ones to go through.

My wee tootie is doing just fine. We're 6 weeks from her second birthday and in most respects she has no real problems. Her speech and cognition are waaaaay ahead of where they should be. It is sometimes quite freaky to have a conversation with one so young! She had cysts show up on her 3rd brain scan which can be something or nothing, but she has now been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. We don't yet know how badly she will be affected or what type she has. We're seeing her consultant next week to get more answers. It appears it will only affect her lower limbs as she seems able to do everything she should except for crawling or walking. She is definitely improving though. Hopefully she will progress onto walking soon, my poor back can't take much more! Thankfully she is on the small side - only 23lbs.

I'm glad you found us. When I first found BNB I had no idea this little corner was here. It's been great to have it though, all the ladies here are lovely.

:hugs: foo, Abby is immense, i was telling my friend all about her and her conversations today! She is flipping amazing!

Hello ladies,

My rainbow baby boy was born on 2nd March 2011 at 14.21 by emergency C-section due to very severe pre-eclampsia. He was 33+ weeks and weighed 4lb 8oz. He went straight to NICU and the doctors told me he would almost certainly need CPAP. However he surprised them when he responded well to oxygen in his incubator and was in air by 9 hours old. He did so well and amazed the nurses there with his progress. He got stronger and stronger each day and as a result he spent only 9 days in NICU and was transfered to the Maternity ward with me on day 10. On day 12 the baby doctors decided that Olly had done so well that he was allowed home. Mummy on the other hand was still poorly but they eventually discharged me on a lot of medication so I could bring my boy home. He's 15 days old today and is amazing. I'm so in love and so proud of how well he has done.

hey guys I'm Leah.... Havent posted on here but once. I had my daughter Gracelynn by emergency C-section at what we thought was 37 weeks. turns out that she was born AT 36 WEEKS. she had breathing issues and problems regulating her body temp. She stayed in the nursery for 5 days and was finally allowed out the day we went home..

How did they know she was 36 weeks? sorry I seen your post before and I struggled to understand.

I didnt find out will i was 15 weeks that I was pregnant. Well the scans have always been off and when she was born the testing they did indicated she wasn't full term yet.

What tests did they do? I haven't heard of them.

Sorry, I just have never heard about this 'testing' and was intrigued. It was always my understanding that a preemie is deemed by gestational age, but full termers can be born with issues too.
Hope your LO is doing well. X

Not to be negative or anything....there isn't any testing that they do on preemies to determine gestational age. There is only a rough guideline of what development stage your baby is at, such as physical things (so say a baby with fused eyes still is likely under 26 weeks...but even this is a tough call). They can run tests on your baby's blood to see organ development and do xrays to check lung development. But these really don't tell you gestational age.

I am happy your LO is doing well now, and it's really tough when they do not have the healthy start we imagine for them.

Welcome to this section!

Your babies are so beautiful and you ladies are strong and inspirational.:flower: A friend recently delivered at 32 weeks and came home 6 weeks ago after 2 weeks in the NICU. Her baby is so cute but so tiny, he weighs 5lb 7 oz.
