I have some opened Gerber Oatmeal from a friend and it expired 04NOV12. Should I throw it out or is it okay to give to baby?

Doctor told me today at my checkup it was okay to start my daughter on Gerber Oatmeal at 4 months, give her fruits at 5 months and start on meat and Veggies at 6 months. How did you do it?

I wouldn't use it, especially as its been opened. Its cheap enough to buy another box

Where I'm from it is recommended to wait until 6 months to start solids so we waited until 6 months and went straight into finger foods and skipped purees entirely (BLW)

i wouldnt eat expired food, i wouldn't want my baby to!

baby cereal is $2 a box!!! buy new.

go by what your dc says,or what you feel is best, everyone has different ways when it comes to starting on solids.

Yeah definitely don't. Like a PP said I personally wouldn't even eat expired. I'm even weird and won't eat it if it expires the next day lol. I'll probably start my son on oatmeal at 4 months (like dr said) just to see how he takes to it but if it doesn't work out we're just doing blw at 6 months. Most people on here seem to take the no cereal/oatmeal route since it's just "empty calories"

I don't eat food if it expires the next day either. And I definitely wouldn't feed my baby expired food.

I would throw it out. My OH will eat expired food (unless it's meat or spoiled), but I won't and I wouldn't want Callum to have expired food either.

Our ped wants us to start solids as well, he said 2 weeks ago that within 2 weeks he wanted Callum on 4 solid 'meals' a day. One cereal, one fruit, one veg and one meat, then finish the meal with breastmilk. There's no way I'm doing that. I'll give him a taste of something every couple days but I've barely started weaning, I really want to do BLW so I'm taking it super slow until he's 6 months old. Just do what you're comfortable with.

Really? I thought the recommendation to wait until 6 months for solids was Canada-wide...apparently not if your dr is pushing you to put your LO on 4 meals a day...my LO is 7 months and still only has 2-3 BLW meals a day

Yeah he wanted him started right away and progressing really quickly. He's huge (22lbs) and has hit all the recommendations for weaning, but I thought he was pushing it a little too much considering Callum was only just 4 months old at the time. I especially thought the 4 meals a day was a lot. He has like one spoonful of puree every 3-4 days, if that. I'm really not comfortable with pushing so much on him at once.
