Is is true? moms have no time?

I would say that a new mum CAN get things done, but she has to prioritise and to be honest, it always seems to be to the detriment of sleep lol.

The first couple of months I was so tired because of wakings, soreness, generally being so tired that no amount of sleep can make you feel better lol (labour was hard!!) I had my hubby to help but it was still knackering.

Earl would sleep in 2-3 hour batches in the beginning, and we could get things done, chill out and nap, have a bath etc without too much hassle - especially when there was 2 of us lol. But on days when I was on my own with him there was good days where Earl slept well and was easily entertained, where I had slept well and had plenty of energy, and there were bad days where nothing got done until he was in bed at 7pm. I would spend 6am-7pm with him, then 7pm-9pm cleaning, sorting and cooking ready for hubby to get home at 9pm, then I would eat and collapse into bed at about 10.30 after his dream feed, and be up again at 1 and 4 to feed him, before being up again at 6am. Hubby worked 5 over 7 but becuase his shifts were erratic he would sleep and I would see to Earl. (I didn't have a lie in from January until August!!!)

I think it's a long slog for the first 6 months as you're looking after a baby, trying to recover from birth, and trying to run a home at the same time. It takes some getting used to.

My advice - sleep every minute that you can! Your washing can wait! Just get what NEEDS to be done, and sod the rest! They're only newborn for such a short time and before you know it, you're into the swing.

well I was more tired when I was pregnant that I have been so far since having Isaac.

I still have PLENTY of time, but since I have a baby that has slept through for the past 2 months and has no problem napping during the day or entertaining himself, this is easy for me.

I appreciate that others have a hard time of it.

I still keep an immaculate 2 bed flat, keep the baby clean and tidy at ALL times, relax myself, shop, feed and do the washing and ironing, stress free.

I have a real bug bear when people keep a shithole of a property, especially with a baby, so whilst I appreciate that time may be tight, I don't think keeping your home clean should be at the bottom of the to do list. Some of my friends, with or without babys live in dumps, and I just think this is pure laziness.

Yes my life is busier because I want to do so many things with Isaac, but with practical thinking, I'm achieving it.

I don't want this post to come across that I'm gloating, I'm merely telling you how it is for me.

Nicola xx

Newborns eat all day long for about the first 6 weeks, so basically you spend those 6 weeks on your ass in front of the tv *LOL*

There were days at the beginning when I was feeding her in my nursing chair for 3 hours at a time! One day my mum was coming to visit and I'd been up with her since 4.30 am, when my mum arrived at noon I still wasn't showered and dressed!

My LO has never slept 16 hours a day. Now she'll sleep about 10 hours at night (well she wakes for feeding but is essentially in bed in that time) during which time we have our dinner, I express milk and we both try and get some sleep before she wakes for her next feed. During the day she has a nap at lunch but often when I'm our at the supermarket or something and may or may not have a couple of other 10 mins catnaps.

Dunno who came up with the phrase "sleeping like a baby". I guess they either didn't have kids or were referring to a 3 year old!

Ava did and still does sleep alot, but I still manage to get things done.
There is always something that needs doing, washing, making up bottles, feeding, nappy changes, and that's before even thinking about 5 minutes for a shower for myself lol!

thanks everyone. probably seems like i was scared off :) but I was just at work all day after having posted this late last night. (U.S. time)
anyhow, it was interesting to read all of your posts. I'm not scared really. What I found most useful was reading about how little sleep I can expect. Most people confirm that the on again off again sleep hours of baby is exhausting. I used to live in a monastery in India and we only slept from 12am-4am and then went all day. I don't know how everyone is with sleep, but because of this practice (which I really liked), I think intervals will be okay. Also I'm fortunate that my husband doesn't have to work mornings so he can wake with kaylee sometimes too, allow me to shower, etc.

I also read that a lot of you said you just can't know until you do it. That must bet true because I believe what you are all saying, but I still can't seem to imagine not having any time. There's always more time right? I mean when we have our second kids we of course find more time for them?

I guess i'm still probably being silly and optimistic. as it is now i work 8 hours, keep a clean house, make jewelry, write, do yoga, spend time with husband and friends, create courses. i guess i was hoping breast feeding was more like an 8 hour job than an all day thing. hehe.

anyway, i'll come back when i know more about it :0) Thanks sooo much for reading and posting.

It really is not something you can understand or imagine until you experience it. Its exactly the same as trying to picture what labor is like. You just can't do it. Like you I used to work full time and go to college. Although I was super busy constantly you just simply can't compare it to being a mommy. There is nothing like it at all. Good luck with everything hun. xx

Hi,
I was just like you when i was pregnant thinking why the hell would you not have any time to yourself if baby sleeps a lot. Well i agree with the other Mums, PREPARE YOURSELF!!!!!. You really don't have any time to yourself any more!!. It's all worth it but it's such hard work. When baby sleeps I'm either doing housework or cleaning bottles and my baby only sleeps for 3o mins on and off during the day so some days i don't get chance to eat.
If you do go out for the day and meet friends for lunch or something, you will be feeding baby and changing him for most of the day!!!.
I'm being serious, make the most of your time now and sleep loads, you will be glad you did because i have never been as tired in my whole life!!!.
It really is worth it though as I'm so happy and love my Lo to bits. I wouldn't change this for the world!!!. BUT GET LOADS OF SLEEP NOW!!!!!. :)

ORR you could have two and never get a spare moment again 'laughs hysterically'

Good luck with the arrival of your LO - whatever you go through its worth it a million times over xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

What do you mean you don't have time. Your LO's can play with each other, you should have loads of time :haha::haha:

No seriously, when you have a child you never know where the time goes. I get up at 7am and then look at the clock and it 5pm :dohh:

Newborns eat all day long for about the first 6 weeks, so basically you spend those 6 weeks on your ass in front of the tv *LOL*

Are you kidding???? I'm very rarely sat on my arse infront of the tv!!!! lol

Like another poster said I like to keep my house really clean and tidy, keep on top of ironing and washing. I alson like to make time to make sure I get showered, hair and make up done in the morning, always have done, always will. My choice to keep busy and do all that but I seriously couln't sit on my backside with everything needing done!!!

venusrockstar is BFing so she means that she couldn't get up and get anything else done because she had to feed her LO non-stop at the beginning. she's wasn't sitting on her ass for those 6 weeks due to laziness - her LO needed feeding.

Wasn't meaning anyone is lazy at all!! Just don't think anyone with a newborn sits on thei backside for 6 mins, never mind 6 weeks!! lol

Oh I see! I had similar experience to her where I would sit in front of TV for 2-3 hours at a time feeding her as couldn't get her off my boob. Then as soon as she stopped for a nap I would run around like a maniac having my shower, doing a bit of cleaning and tidying, trying to grab something to eat before LO woke up and the cycle started again! Thankfully I am past that constant feeding stage and she will go 3-4 hours between feeds generally and our flat isn't in such total chaos!

I dont think I managed to sit down until they started preschool lol. Babys are hard!

I still manage to sit down and chill... but then again, i do 64 hour days!!!!lol
