I know I have plenty of time yet before I go back to work.. But sometimes I wonder if it really is worth going back!?

I'll be going back part time if I do, but once everything is paid out, I'm probably no better off working iykwim?

- Money to get to work and back
- Money to park
- 4 days I'd have to pay childcare

Is it really worth it!?

If I didn't go back, what would happen? Would I have to go on JSA? :/

if you are a SAHM you can't get JSA; any additional benefits depend on your total income ie OH wages

hth
x

Oh  - I thought you did lol (get JSA)

What sort of benefits can you get if your a sahm?

if you are a sahm you cant claim anything if your partner works but you can claim working and child tax credits as a couple i would be £60 worse off if i go back to work once i pay for childcare and that its daft init wots point in going back working all them hours and missing out on time with lo tobe worse off
im just going to be a sahm

exactly haha.. ill prob be worse off, i dont exactly get a brill wage :/

^^ me neither lol i have to earn comission to make my wages good n im crap at getting it so never get it made up haha

Shite init lol! I was one of the duty managers at work too but my wage never went up :dohh:...

^^ thats never right same happened to me at old job they gave me more responsibility but no extra cash i asked for pay rise but nothing so i left lol

theres nothing you can get if your partner works, except the usual tac credits, child benefit etc, However if you rent, you may be entitled to some housing benefit...May be worth looking into, I know when i wanted to stop the money they gave for HB literallly coverd what id have earnt if i went back to work x x

we get 480mth in ctc and wtc. So for me to go back to work id have to earn that ,plus travel cost ,plus nursery for 2 kids under 2. Thats never gonna happen. Although im glad as i dont want to anyway. I love bein a sahm. I guess if your not gonna be better off then its up to you. If you have a carear that may get effected by takin a few years out then it maybe worth it

If I was to go back to work and not end up any better off at the end of the month I wouldnt go back!!!

We are not entitled to any benefits at all - whether I work or not, so I am much better off working. I am only working 3 days per week - have been since returned after maternity leave. Went back in Jan this year, finish up October for another maternity leave!! After a year off I will go back 3 days again:flower:

I'm a single parent my daughter has nothing to do with her father. I'd love to go back to work but there is no way I'd make enough to be able to pay the rent and bills etc. In some ways I'm better off not going back to work but I hate the idea of being on benefits for the rest of my life

True I see what you saying as I thought that myself at first... But it means been with Lily all the time, that means more :)

LittleBlonde, can I ask what your OH makes a week/month or year so that u recieve that much in ctc etc ? atm I dont get ay working tax but get 80 a month ctc xx

I'm a single mummy, I work part time and run my own business too (I'm not actually earning anything from it yet though it's still very early days) I think I'd probably be better off not working at all but I'd go mad! The difference for me would be knowing that my rent and council tax etc would ALWAYS be paid if I didn't work, while you're in a council house or on full benefits no-one is going to make you homeless etc so I'd be a lot more secure in that sense.
The problem is that childcare is so expensive, if child care was subsidised as opposed to rent etc it would be a whole lot easier for mums. I hate feeling penalised for working!

Hi I dont know if this will be of interest to any of you but I saw an advert for this when I was pregnant and later (just a few months ago) joined. I was sceptical and it took me a while to gofor it but it seems to be working as a single parent needed finances and was worried that this wouldnt be enough for me but with the help of my savings I have managed to survive the hardest part and am now starting to earn with the company. If you would like to to have a look. I've copied an advert I saw for the company that I will post here, so have a look. If your interested great if not than thats fine to just thought I'd show people that there are options especially thoses debating going back as will they be any better off by going back this could be your answer as you can earn a lot b4 you pay tax etc as you register as self employed, hardest part is if you the main earner, mortgages are hard if self employed.

I'm always a bit dubious about an advert that doesn't actually state what the job role is
