Anya e planning to get an IUD removal to TTC? I have the Paragard IUD (the non hormonal) and will need to get it taken out in the next few months. A little nervous about that, anyone have one removed before? I want to bear experiences...

I had paraguard for a while. It was hell to get it in! They actually had to numb me, which is pretty unusual. Getting it out hurt, but not nearly as much. I also didn't have that abdominal ache that I has after getting it in.

It didn't hurt much getting it out, get the person doing it to tell you to take a deep breath just as they're removing it and you should barely notice it. I fell pregnant 4 days after it was removed.

i had mine removed nearly two years ago now, wasnt too painfull concidering i had no strings, had to see a specialist doc at local sexual health clinic and she only just managed to get it out

if strings are present they just pull them gently till it comes out.
its no where as bad as having them put in

Removing the Paragard is a breeze. I had mine in for 9 years, and the whole procedure took about a minute. It's nothing like having it an IUD put in.

I had a mirena out and it was fine. It was a bit uncomfortable going in but when removed it was just like a smear, I didn't feel it come out, just done slight poking.

I've you've had it put in you've done the worst bit by far!

Thank you guys so much! I feel much better about it now. It was NOT fun getting it put in, (the cramps that night were unbearably nasty). And MarineWAG, that is so good to hear that you got pregnant so fast after having it removed! Gives me hope! :)

I just got my Mirena removed 12/4 and it was not painful at all! I too was nervous. :) Be prepared for a horrendous period though. Four days after my removal I had a period that lasted for seven days and was so so heavy. Used a super tampon every couple of hours!

I had mine taken out today. The actual removal was fine but I find the speculum used really uncomfortable.

I'm not looking forward to the horrendous period 4 days later!! I didn't time it well for Christmas if that is the case! Hopefully mine won't be as bad as yours HappyinLove. Did you have periods with your mirena? I haven't had any the whole time.

I didn't have periods while I had it in either. Just expect the worse. I wasn't prepared at all for how bad the period would be. Large clots and all. It feels good to finally be cleansed if you know what I mean.

I had a Mirena for about 5 or 6 years and took it out when e decided to start trying. It wasn't super comfortable coming out, but I wouldn't call it painful. Not like putting it in, and I didn't experience any cramps afterward. I got my period back maybe two weeks later, and I don't recall it being heavy. I got pregnant about 2 months after getting it out.

Yeah I wish I had gotten the mirena instead of the paragard because with mirena your period goes away, but with the paragard your periods and cramps get wayyyy worse. Its miserable. I can't wait to get it out. I was up all night last night with cramps that were making me scream.

Definitely doesnt hurt coming out just uncomfortable. I had a problem with mine and meant it had to wait several months for removal because the initial attempt couldnt find strings. I wondered if this might be a problem though because I had suffered pain with it for several months prior and it had become dislodged. I went to hospital to have it out in the end and it was over in a jiffy!

4 days since mine was out and I started bleeding on day 2 but is hasn't been very bad at all, quite light really. Hopefully I don't jinx myself though and have it suddenly change and get super heavy for Christmas tomorrow!

The paragard doesn't sound very good. I found the mirena great, much better than the implanon I had in my arm and easier than the pill. I would most likely get it again when I need contraception next time.

I had my Mirena IUD removed in November (had it for 3.5 years). The insertion was terrible (I almost passed out). The removal was not bad at all. I have problems with speculums for PAP smears etc. so that was the worst part. When my doc removed the IUD it felt like a slight pinch. I had some minimal cramping for about an hour afterwards. I did take some ibuprofen prior to going in though so not sure if that helped.
