Hi All,
I have been TTC via ICI (at home) with sperm from a known donor for about a year. Doc says it is time to try IUI, then possibly IVF :(
My question is does anyone have experience doing IUI with a known donor? It seems like at the official fertility clinics they are going to want to quarantine his sperm for 6 months, as well as do a lot of expensive testing/fees.
(My donor was a sperm donor through a clinic at one point so I know his sperm can survive freezing...I'm really just trying to avoid the cost/time/hassle of this.) Is it possible to get IUI done just using donor sperm as you would a partner's? Has anyone done this?

K

Yes they should be able to do IUI with his fresh sample . they will wash it first then perform the IUI .if they refuse to I would find another clinic.

Actually, i think in the usa, you can't use fresh sample for IUI. It has to be thawed from a frozen sample and it will cost money to do all the tests and stuff so if you know this friend, you can do home insemination like you have been doing or you can look for a different donor using the banks they get it from (which might be cheaper as you don't pay for your donor's tests and stuff). Check with the clinic, do your research. It's the law in USA that anytime a known donor is used, they have to do the tests required and that costs money either way.

This is incorrect I live in the USA and you can either use frozen or fresh sperm but fresh sperm must be washed first.

Lisa- my clinic wouldn't let me use fresh sperms (even washed) from a known donor. So if it's coming from someone who isn't your spouse, they have to follow the rules regarding freezing the sample after washing it and then whatever after that. I do recall that they allowed me to get IUI done sooner than the 6 months wait, I can't remember what I had to agree to in order for that to happen.
