My DH and I have been ttc for 2 years now. My Dh was diagnosed with low motility last year due to varicose veins and had surgery to correct it. I got a bfp in August but lost it shortly after.

I just finished up all my tests except the Hsg which I hope to get at the end of this week. So far so good on my end. DH got a SA as well, my doctor read his tests and said that his motility was on the low end but still with in the normal range and viscosity was the same. He followed up with his urologist today who was not as positive.

We are heading toward IUI. The doctor gave me the option to do it with or without clomid. I am leaning toward without since I am ovulating just fine on my own. Has anyone else in a similar boat? Has anyone out there done the IUI without clomid and received positive results?

I did!!!! I did!!!!

I did not want to use Clomid unless I was convinced it was DEFINITELY necessary. (I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, it was just my personal feelings)

I was monitored and they saw that I was making eggs on my own. They were even on the small side. Only 15 mm one time. 18 mm was the biggest I ever had one get before releasing. But I felt like even though that was the small side of normal it was still technically "normal". The specialists suggested Clomid to me quite a few times and I always said "not yet".

(side note: I was also on multiple types of progesterone)

On my fourth IUI, I got my first ever BFP!!!! (and after almost 3 years TTC!!!)

No Clomid!!! They say that statistically it's less likely. But I think that's got to at least partially be because statistically most people who do IUI NEED Clomid. But definitely not everyone.

It happens!!

(sorry I don't know anything getting surgery for motility issues, so I can't relate there. But I can without ANY doubt say that Clomid - or other drugs for egg development - are not always necessary with IUI)

Just another opinion to put out there. The struggle and disappointments are so hard for IUI and financially for some who's insurance doesn't cover it (Like mine) when they fail, not that yours will. I did 2 IUI's and was geared up for a 3rd until we decided to go straight to IVF. My doc always is game for if one fails try something else. You could try 1 natural but if it fails do something else. Ex. First IUI I did femera with a trigger shot, (I have no ovulation issues, the medication just gives your more eggs which is more opportunities or better quality) Second IUI I switched to clomid + trigger and it failed. 3rd IUI I was going to do injectables + trigger (this one would higher our rate of multiples but had the most successful rate to conceive). Just another opinion. Obviously everyone is different. I hope it works out on the first one for you!

I ovulate just fine myself, based on temping and the blood tests but my Dr. is starting my first IUI with Clomid 100mg + trigger shot. I have tried Clomid before but it was never monitored so I don't really know how I respond. I am going along with the Clomid cycles because if it can give me more follicles which could increase my chances of conceiving in less IUI rounds then I am all for it. We will see how I handle the side effects of everything and change it as needed.

Good luck with your decision!

Personally just doing an IUI alone was suck an emotional jump for us. Even though I ovulate on my own I wanted to increase the chances for this to take. The IUI is not a guarantee that it will work, I think there is no harm in increasing your chances. I understand wanting to be an natural as possible, and even though none of my iui took, I am glad we did it with the best possible eggs and multiple eggs. Especially since we did it all out of pocket.

Update: I went in for my first follicle check last cycle(July) and even though all my blood tests showed normal ovulation. After two follicle checks the ultrasound said that I was on an antiovulation cycle. I had had a lot of stress during this procedure and honestly I think that I just ovulated really late, especially since my period was 9 days late. I decided to start on Clomid this cycle and am scheduled for a follicle check next week hopefully I will be good to start the IUI. The Clomid is definitely making me easily fatigued and weepy but so far so good.

Sorry your last cycle was stressful :hugs: The Clomid makes me feel like that as well. I take it before bed so I can sleep through most of the side effects. What dose are you taking? My follie scan and is scheduled for next Tuesday and we will schedule IUI then. Sounds like our cycles will be pretty close.

Rebandy, I am taking 50 mg right now. It does sound like our cycles are very close. Actually, it looks like we are in a very similar situation. DH and I have been trying for two years and 1 month. HSG was clear. DH SA was low but within normal range. I ovulate fine but still no baby. I have had one MC so at least I know I can get pregnant but that is little comfort since a year has passed with no more pregnancies. I am getting my follicle check on Wednesday so maybe we will be getting our IUI's around the same time, if all goes well. I am feeling pretty hopeless right now but I really think it is the Clomid taking effect and playing with my emotions.

So I was off on my dates a bit. I have my ultrasound to get my flolicle check in an hour. Fingers crossed my eggs are cooked and ready to go =). Go luck to anyone else checking this week or in the near future.

I am having my follicle scan in two hours. Excitied to see what is happening in there. I haven't had much ovary discomfort since Saturday so hopefully I have to right amount of follies. Should be having my IUI by the end of the week.

Good Luck Rebrandy!! My follicles were good so I was able to get my trigger shot and will be getting my first IUI at 10:00 tomorrow!!!! I know its not a guarantee that I will get pregnant but at least the process is finally starting to move forward!!

I had my IUI today!!!!!! Please send me all the baby dust you can spare!!:dust::

Yay :dust: your way. Send some back though because mine is bright and early tomorrow

Dreaming & rebandy, can I jump on this wagon as well? Getting my follicle check on Monday 8/17 cd10! 100 mg of clomid. Hoping for iui later in the week.

Good luck to both of you! Keep us posted

Rebrandy: Hopefully things went well for you this morning sending lots of :dust: back your way!!!

TTC: I would be happy to have you join it's nice to have other women to talk to that are going through the same thing, good luck on your follicle check.

So after the IUI, the doc told me to go home and do the BD with DH as much as possible to increase our chances. So I went home and told my DH what she said. We tried last night and again this morning. Although it was fun, I think DH was way to fixated on trying and couldn't add to my sample. Fingers crossed that the IUI will be enough!

Well I had my iui this morning!! Everything went as I expected. Had slight cramping and feeling what I think are o pains now so hopefully the timing is spot on!

Dr told us to bd tonight and tomorrow also.

Yay for the tww. Said no one ever lol

Are you both only getting 1 insemination ? My doctor said she would do it for 2 days .. How long after the trigger shot did they inseminate you? I'm still a little foggy on the timing

Yes I only had it once, I had my trigger Tuesday afternoon and iui this morning. It was about 40 hrs apart and I think I felt o pains a few hours after iui but I could be wrong.

I had my follicle check on Tuesday, since my follicles looked ready they gave me the trigger shot right then and there. I had my IUI the next day a little less than 24 hours later. I had pain in my left side all day yesterday. I don't know if it was O pain since I don't usually feel my O. Kinda hoping it was aching from the egg implanting but I don't know if it was too early for that and I'm trying to not get my hopes to high. The doctor said it most likely won't take the first time so I am planning on doing this all again next cycle if it does not take.

Lots of baby fist to everyone!

Dreaming- What cycle day were you when you had the IUI? I'm gonna be Cd14 next Saturday so I think they're going to try to use meds to push off my ovulation till Monday.
