Hi everyone

Another quicky question for IVF peeps

I am aware that miscarriage is common for first time IVF people but after how many weeks/months is safe from the delicate stage of miscarriage?

As in after how many weeks/months is the baby strong enough or the woman is strong enough that now miscarriage is not as likely?

Hope that makes sense. xx

miscarriage can occur up to 24 weeks

its most common up until 12 weeks

after 21 week the baby is viable and has a chance of surviving, if it doesn't survive it is classed as still birth as opposed to miscarriage but in the 3 weeks between 21 weeks and 24 weeks it can be open to interpretation as to what to call a situation

there is never a safe time during pregnancy as anything can happen but the first 3 months are usually the most critical

good luck

JJKCB - Thank you so much for that info. Very clear! Is this why the first scan is done at weeks?

(I think its at 12 weeks)

yes it is 12 weeks, 12 weeks marks the end of the first trimester

over here on the NHS it tend to be 12 weeks (although it can be done anytime between 8 and 14) you will get 2 if everything is normal - 1 at 12 weeks and 1 at 24 weeks

it can be done earlier for private hospitals or sometimes for people who need it earlier for medical reasons (like needing an x-ray) usually as an internal ultrasound (going in through the vagina)

Found this:winkwink:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18310375

And even if non-IVF pregnancy it is very common to lose the 1st one (I once read 50%...crazy:wacko: but I was one of them, so were many of my friends, it's a gamble...)

Thanks for that link, I will have a read. Im sorry about your MC (Just saw on your signature) Congratulations on your little one, is that a pic of her? Shes beautiful! and congrats on your BFP! :-)

X

Thanks :) Yep, that's her :) Gotta say she is quite the cutie, people walking by stops me to tell me how pretty she is and what beautiful eyes she has (deep blue just like her daddy's). Can't help but blush everytime , I need to update her picture though. With Zoe, I am done grieving my losses. Now I know they happened for a reason, and I wouldn't change a thing!! Sounds cheezy but it's true :) I am not a LTTCer, but I know miscarriage is something every pregnant woman fears:hugs:

Yeah im sure it is. I always used to hear pregnant ladies get very worried with MC. Im doing IVF for the first time and Iv not had my egg collection yet but I am already feeling the worry of what if I lose my baby. I dont know how I will cope.x
