Jehovah's Witnesses

I personally find the thought of Jehova being real very comforting. When I pray I feel at peace. I I really do hope he is real
xx

I agree, what you feel is his holy spirit, the bible says he wants us to have a relationship with him, to be his friend, i have the same feeling you describe, an inner peace that i have never felt at any other time x

Animals yes may be able to adapt to different habitats to a certain extent due to global warming or what not, but thats still not the concept behind evolution at all.

Just a point: Adaptation is the concept behind evolution, really. Animals which have features which allow them to survive in said environment survive and reproduce, and those which don't die (in simple terms). Animals with 'good features' keep reproducing, and so evolve in that way.

In terms of the Tiktaalik I mentioned earlier, it's possible that it became more advantageous for survival for it to have developed legs - whether for finding food, escaping predators, etc. - so that it 'evolved' legs.

hi everyone

I did post on this when it came up the first time lol

I'm a jw and shanandboc you are sooooo knowledgeable and put things so well, it puts me to shame lol

And is nice to see everyone being nice and no arguements! Which is always difficult when religion is involved.

some sites with some interesting info if anyone is interested with scientific evidence backing up creation and that in fact we all did come from two original humans, that we are all ultimately related.

https://english.pravda.ru/science/earth/106713-0/ - online science info

Someone on my course sent me the answersingenesis website (about the metamorphosis of garnet - so not entirely related here) - it's a very interesting website.

haha thanks, a lifetime of studying and searching i guess, im only studying again atm (i was raised a witness) but i do alot of reading lol x

So true about no arguements, 99% have come on here and put forward their views respectfully at all times. Makes for a great discussion x

Does make a pleasant change!! I like people who can put their beliefs across without being nasty/personal - we don't have to all have the same ideas or beliefs. What a boring world it would be if we all agreed.

ShanandBoc, you are now on my list of dream dinner party guests - I could argue with you for hours (in a nice way!).

I could write pages and pages on what I feel is real and what science has proved and not proved...I just think people need to make up their own minds though. Saying one or the other is right or wrong is individual choice.

I personally could not give up the spiritual side of my life. I like to do readings, tarot and palm reading. I like to do spells and be at one with nature. If I am in sin according to the the bible for doing this then that proves my reasons for me not believing. I will live my life how I want. Connecting with the spiritual world gives me far more comfort than a force that has not yet proved anything to me.

I must say, I did study science but I am also spiritual, but not religious. Its very hard to find a balance but I have my own personal views. I believe in science with regards to astronomy, how the earth and the universe was created. The rest I believe in because I see it with my own eyes. (spiritual side)

I wish I believed in something too. I really want to believe in God. My dad and his family are all devoted Catholics. I think I believe there is something. Or rather, I want to believe there is something. My life would be much more peaceful if I believed we were going to a better place, and that we were all being watched over. There are times in my life when I have prayed - but really only in times of dispair - maybe that makes me a hypocrite, I dont know. But I too have felt a very calming affect by talking to Him.

I can honestly say, this thread has shined a whole new light on the matter for me, and I will give it much thought in the future.

I have to believe completely in science.. at least until I've finished my current assignment on this subject. :winkwink: Not sure that I'd get any marks for writing about creationism. x

You can still feel harmonious with a spiritual life style. Before I embraced it, I felt lost, lonely and depressed. I also had poor anger management. I now meditate, feel comfortable by the spirits around me and at one with nature. I just do not believe in "God" as it is portrayed in the bible. Understanding the greatness of nature and the universe can make you feel so much better. I feel like my life has much more meaning now.

i think this is the most confusing thread ever lol!!! started with a question about why people knock on strangers doors to preach their religion and is now about whether evolution actually happened. i got bored half way through trying to work out what was going on but i'll be reading with interest from now on :D

I have no problem with them - our neighbours are JW and they are the loveliest people. They do not preach at us at all; I'm not sure but I think they have some unwritten code that they don't go to their neighbours. We do get JW come round sometimes but if I see it's them then I don't answer the door; if I answer without realising then I am polite but tell them I respect their beliefs but have my own which I am very devoted to. They don't make any big deal and they go on their way.

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs and while I think it's a bit OTT to take the word to people's doors, they are just doing what they are meant to do which is to actively spread the word. I prefer a JW to a flippin double glazing salesman! One time one tried to sell me a conservatory; I told him I have one and he still said he wanted to see if we would like a new, updated one!!! At least when you tell JWs you are not interested, they go.

BTW I am very science minded, but I am also a Christian (and I believe). I am one who sees no reason why both cannot exist in tandem. If you can say where the beginning of the beginning of the beginning of the beginning came from, you can tell me there is no force other than science. :) That's just my belief though.

.

not always the case! i have never had a problem until the house i have just moved from. two women kept turning up minimum twice a week with leaflets and books, inviting me to meetings etc. sometimes my i would have my baby as i was in the middle of feeding etc and they would reach out and be like oooh lets havea hold then! i was like 'i'm sorry i'm just not comfortable with strangers holding him' i felt really bad and they always acted really hurt! i kept telling them i had strong beliefs of another religion but they kept saying how they knew what was best and stuff!

but as i said i've never had a problem with any other JW i think these were just a bit creepy.

anyway when i first clicked on this thread and saw it had so many pages i thought it was gonna be about blood transfusions lol

Just had a very nice bible study. Went on for two hours. I really need to stop asking so many questions she will get sick of me lol

Also believing in god and following the bible, is all about having a spritual side too... :flower:
