My induction started on the 15th at 5:30am they hooked me up to an IV for antibiotics (I am group b positive) by 8-8:30a they started pitocin to start contractions. I was on the birthing ball for a majority of my early labor just hanging out with my husband. About 3p I requested to get an epidural( they have to pump fluids into you for an hour before they do one) I wanted to make sure to get one before it was too late and I heard the ward had gotten really busy. When they came in to do the epidural I requested for them to use an ultrasound so they could make sure to get it inserted properly ( they did this during my last labor bc when I was in labor with my son they couldn't get it right, I had 2 failed epidural so had to give birth without any pain relief) I was told that the person didnt know how to do it that way and he proceeded to say how good he is at putting an epidural in and that he was confident it would go well. It did not go well. After the epidural was placed only my right leg got numb below the hip. They tried adjusting the dose to see if it helped and it took some edge off but mostly just made my right leg more numb. I refused to let them do a second one because they hurt to get and I didn't think he would be able to get it right. So labor continues to progress slowly. Baby's head wasnt engaged enough and everytime they checked me she would move up. They were concerned That if they broke my waters the cord might prolapse. So they let me labor longer and upped the pitocin. By this point the contractions were starting to hurt pretty bad and I was getting frustrated bc the nurse would not leave me alone so it was hard for me to concentrate on breathing through the contractions. By 11:45p I was 6cm dilated and the baby was engaged enough for them to break my waters. The OB broke my water and the pitocin was turned higher. By this time I felt like something was off. The pain was so bad it hurt worse than my 2 previous labors combined. During the pushing the OB discovered that baby's head was almost too big to come out. The OB had to stretch me open to get the head out, then she noticed that baby's left hand was up by her face and that her shoulders were too wide and she got stuck. During this time her heart rate fell to 60bpm. The room got filled with so many nurses and doctors. The OB literally had to yank my baby out. They laid her on me for a few seconds before taking her away. I was told that my baby was "stunned" she wasn't moving crying or anything they continued to work on her while I delivered the placenta. Her oxygen was low and she couldn't move her left arm. They took her out of the room until they got her oxygen levels up and took x rays to make sure nothing was broken. They brought her back about an hour later, thankfully nothing was broken. She was able to move her arm some but not as much as she should. They are monitoring her for nerve damage, once she has her first checkup they will decide if she needs lphysical therapy. We are home now, I am still in a lot of pain and am thankfull my husband will be home for a few weeks to help me. Her arm has better movement than when we were discharged so I am hopeful. Elizabeth Renee is 8lbs 12oz and 21 inches long. I am so thankful for this little girl who now completes out family ♡
