As an early Christmas present? At Christmas he'll be 6 months but we could buy it early for maximum usage or stay using the walker later. Which would you get and why?

I heard too many horror stories about walkers and her doctor said to avoid them, so we did. We bought her a stationary bouncer around 7 months and she wore that thing out, lol.

I would not purchase a walker. The research that I've done shows that they are far too dangerous, and they also slow gross motor development. We do, however, have a stationary exersaucer, which he loves, but don't keep him in there for long periods of time.

Mesa had a jumperoo. WORE. IT. OUT. Loved it. I avoided the walker due to he potential side effects.

My two Los have both had baby walkers and loved them ds2 is 10 months old and really close to walking.

Dd had baby Walker and loved it, didn't damage her in any way like some research suggests and ds had a jumparoo as my living room was too small for a baby Walker and he loved that to bits so I'd say go with what suits your home, if u have a small space or ornimants etc go for a stationary play centre x

My daughter had a wooden toddler trolley, which I think is different from what most people mean when they say walker (though in my brain they're the same), basically a cart to push around rather than something to sit in and walk. She enjoyed that and actually still pushes it around with her toys in it now at 2.5. We didn't have any of the sort of activity centre like toys (where you sit them in the middle, like a jumperoo). She was quite happy to just be on the floor with things to play with.

Below is a paragraph from the Montessori School for infant/toddler development:

Jumpers and walkers may seem to be strengthening muscles, but they teach the child to move artificially and movement must be relearned. In fact, the use of baby walkers was banned at childcare centers by the American Academy of Pediatrics due to the overwhelming number of injuries they cause each year. Just as we should not inhibit movement, nor should we rush it. Each child develops in his own time. To assist the child by holding him upright to help him walk sends the message that he is not ready or that we are not satisfied with his progress.

This school actually says to use a trolley like you talked about. The link is below. The Montessori school is very smart on child development. I was wondering......how old was your LO when she started walking? I am thinking of not getting a walker or a jumper because of what they say above. Not sure yet though.

Not trying to hijack the thread but a quick question, I dont want a walker, but are excersaucers (sorta its the closet thing to it) bad to? I found a music piano one that isn't a walker, had a solid bottom with music piano keys that play when they step on them. Are those bad to? Here's the link: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fisher-P...bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n

And what about this around we go table? It was gifted to us and my baby adores it although she doesn't walk round it yet she just likes to sit in it and play with the toys :(

I didn't even think of doing research on walkers, but never planned on getting one, but was gifted the around we go table.

I know my mom said she used walkers with us all and we are "fine" but I know that ny baby isn't us haha and times change. But her jumper and around we go table are the only things she can be put in to give me 5 minutes to eat, or 20 mins to clean. She's not in them often At all. Maybe an hour at most a day spread out into 5-15 min sessions. She doesn't quite jump yet in her jumper as her feet are not quite to the ground but she loves to sit and play with the toys. She is in the age range for hers, just a short baby.

My son walked at 9 months by ten months he was steady on his feet.

We had a walker... Walkers are safe as long as you use them safely.... They can reach things more easily so it's important the home is safe and things are out of each. Also move anything they could knock over or onto themselves. ... We used the walked in our empty hall way it was perfect and he loved it.

We also had a jumperoo.... It was fab and used lots of his energy.

I would buy both again but if I could only have one I would choose a jumperoo.

If you want a walker, the push along style walkers are supposed to be better than the other kind that lots of posters seem to be talking about. We never had any kind of walker or exersaucer. Both kids enjoyed the jumper starting a little before 6 months.

Nobody buys a jumperoo or a walker to speed up their babies development, they buy them because they keep babies who aren't happy to just lie down entertained for 10 minutes while you quickly pee/stuff your face/fold washing/rescue your sanity.

We have a jumperoo and it's a life saver. He loves it! It also means I get to eat sometimes! And occasionally even get dressed 🙊 It's fab.

I bought a Jumperoo today. I have read all of the stories about how they are bad, development wise, but until I have actually seen stories to prove that I'm still going to let my son use one.

I had a walker when I was younger and so did my husband. He walked at 9 months and I walked at 10 without any difficulties due to being in a walker.

I actually fell down a flight of stairs in my walker when I was little, due to my moms negligence ;) and I'm still here! I didn't even get hurt.

My son is a bit young for the Jumperoo, but I can't wait until I can put him in it so I can start getting more done around the house!

I had a jumperoo for my first but sold it. He did really love it but in retrospect it was so over stimulating for him and I think it, and loud flashy toys like it, really contributed to his sleep problems.
