just found out i was weaned at 12 weeks

I don't know when I was weaned I reckon around 4 months as that's when my girls were weaned, but rice cereal in bottles was very commen when I was born

I had a woman I talked to on craigslist about formula, tell me that she put her granddaughter on while milk at 8m because she couldnt afford to buy formula.. She got custody of the baby from mom who was having problems.

I started my lil ones early with solids.. My mom did with her 5 kids, my grama did with her 3. All my siblings, and aunts and uncles dont have allergies or digestive problems.

Alot of things were changed over the yrs for the baby companies to make more money.

My grandma also weaned all five of her kids straight onto cow's milk in a cup at 8 months. Sounds like it was a pretty common practice at the time.

I was put on solids at 12 weeks as well. My mum said the advice then was 12 weeks or 12lbs whichever came first. Some babies are born 12lb, it's crazy lol. I'm pretty sure I still had milk as well as solids at 12 weeks. Funny how things change. When our Los are older they'll prob be saying ' can you believe our mums used to wean us at 6 months' lol.

Wow!
My parents put rice cereal in my bottles from 3 months as I was so hungry - I imagine I was just going through a growth spurt, but that seemed to be the done thing back then :|
Not sure when I was totally weaned but my dad was very surprised when I said babies need milk for at least a year, he seemed to think from around 6 months I would be giving my LO purees only. They thought she had 'feeding problems' as she would only eat solids from 9 months old. I guess we are more laid back these days and not in such a rush to get babies on solids before they're ready

Just got my baby book out and I'm pretty surprised! First cereal at 6 months. I was weaned onto Vit. D whole milk at 8 months though (?). Sounds interesting. :p

Baby books are good little reminders, I got ds's out the other day and I could have SWORN I started rice cereal at 4 months, nope, 3 months. By 4 months I said that his "favorite food was sweet potatoes". I was surprized to remember I started a month early, probably pressure from my mom to get him off his night feed :winkwink: :haha:

My brother and I were both weaned at 12 weeks.
My mom couldn't breastfeed, so my brother was put on formula. Apparently he had a reaction to it, so was switched to cow's milk because there was only the one kind of formula at the time. (This was 35 years ago).
Because of that, when I was born, the doctors told my mother to just have me on cow's milk right away, so that's what I was fed from birth. Crazy, hey?? Can it imagine someone on bnb saying they fed their baby cow's milk from birth?

Wow if it was still the 12 weeks or 12 lbs my LO would have been weaned at 7 weeks. I can't even imagine trying that.

I was started on baby rice at 12 weeks as apparently that was the done thing then! My mum thought I was mad when I said I was waiting as close to 6 months as I could!

I know I was also BF until 6 months, formula until 1 then cows milk after that.

Isnt it weird how the different areas gave different advice.

Im 27 and I was fed solids ' early' on the advice of the dr at 5.5 months and that was because I was dropping too many milk feeds. My brother is 29 and had his first solids at 22 weeks, again my mum thought this was early.

We never had rice cereal, never had anything in a bottle apart from milk/juice and water. My mum and all her friends who had kids at the same time did the same.

I was given what my mom calls poor formula it was condensed milk water and sugar mixed together. And weaned at 8 weeks cause I was "hungry"

I think me and my bro & sis were weaned at 4 months

My mum said that was the norm in the 80s, mothers were told to start on purees at 12 weeks.

my mum said she gave me potatoes at 12weeks. and once when my mum was looking after lo at 8weeks i came home and she had feed her baby rice.
i think it must of been the guideline back then

My mother started introducing solids at about 4 months but I know she put rice cereals in our bottles earlier than that. She was surprised when I totally refused to do the same with my boys and she too said it was the norm back in the 70s.
But I have no digestive problems and the only allergy I have is to nickel.

my mom gave us rice cereal in the bottles when we were 12 weeks. when she told me i laughed thinking what people here would say if i did that now. FWIW i have no allergies and an iron stomach lol

12 weeks? Your mom was late!! I was weaned at 8 weeks. I look at Philippe and think how the hell....!???!?

My mum also put honey in one of those medicine dispenser dummies and gave them to me, not quite sure why:shock: She said she was advised to by my nan who did the same with all her kids. Think it was for teething or something. This was nearly 22 years ago, crazy.

Wow babies aren't even allowed honey these days!

I know, I told her and my aunties that you're not supposed to give them honey nowadays because an ingredient in it can be harmful and they scoffed and said its natural how can honey be harmful:wacko:
