just found out i was weaned at 12 weeks

Well duh, everything natural is safe. Poison berries mmm...

Wow... my mom even told me I should be putting my LO on cows milk... and that was when she was only 3 months
I know its changed so much with somethings.

I was started on purées at 4 months, and breastfed until 18 months. Apparently, I didn't eat much solid food until I was over one and just nursed a lot. Sounds like Alice!

I was weaned from about 3 months, as was my husband and his brother and sister. So were my mum's neighbours. I think it was commonplace back then x

My mum introduced solids at 12 weeks with both me and my brother... We are both perfectly fine and no allergies. I started Harrison on baby rice at 12 weeks (like 2 weaning spoonfuls a day) for his dinner before bed. He's fine and the best eater I know. He was and still is having a lot of milk though. He loves his milk!

XxX

I started gumming Cheerios soaked in bm at 16 weeks, according to my baby book, but didn't have a "proper" pureed meal until 11mo. I wasn't eating 3/day until well past 2, but my mom also extended bf and we couldn't afford doctor visits, so she just did what her great-granny told her to. I think we're all really lucky to be alive. Is rusk the UK version of the biscotti? I would give just about anything to be able to eat a biscotti soaked in milk.

^I think rusks are like the Mum Mums for sale at Walmart!

i had my first taste of baby rice at 6 weeks, then was weaned at 12 weeks!! :dohh:
my mum couldnt believe it when i told her they advice waiting til 6 months for weaning now!

I was on 3 meals a day eating the same food as what they were having (mashed up obviously!) by 4 months!

We are all shocked, but who is to say they got it wrong?? We are all fine. We dont know what the effects of weaning at 6 months are yet cos guidelines haven't been around for enough years to know.

My mum goes on about me sleeping through at 6 weeks....well yes i was so stuffed full of baby rice of course i slept through! :haha:

Babies are extremely resilient, obviously. My dad was born in 1956 and my grandma produced no bm at all....it was strange at that time that her pediatrician was extremely pro-BF but couldn't really tell what was wrong. Anyway after a couple days of my dad not having any food she put him on some strange formula of carnation milk and some other stuff. he's really smart and also very healthy.

lol

My MIL started giving my OH rice cereal pretty much right after he was born and she kept encouraging us to do the same...

I've always wanted to say "maybe he wouldn't shit ten times a day if you didn't give it to him so early" but I always keep my mouth shut. :haha:

I was started on solids at 6 weeks (baby rice). I was breastfed also, but was 'hungry'. A topup bottle of formula was introduced about that time as well. My OH never had breastmilk or formula ever, no idea how he survived! He just had scalded cows milk and water from birth. He's the same age as I am so no idea why his mum didn't buy formula.

Yep me to- I've got a pic of me at about 4 months eating a 'choc dip', for anyone who doesn't know what that is, it's like a little pot of soft chocolate (like nutella)with biscuit type fingers to dip in it! Obviously my mum wasn't worried about excess sugar! :dohh:

I was weaned it about 12 weeks and I was a preemie so my adjusted age would have been about 6 weeks!

It seems it isn't just in the past though. Went to Starbucks yesterday and there was a lady with a baby ca 4 months in a maxi cosi stroller type thing and she bought him one of those yellow sugar lollies on a stick that they have by the till?! He was licking and sucking it right there! I couldn't believe my eyes!

I was a colicky brat and my mom dumped me at my grandmas (her MIL!) because she couldn't cope & ran away for a night...

Somehow, I believe her. I hear a lot of stories with rose coloured glasses about babies 30 years ago, but this one... I believe

I've found there are still people who put rusk/baby rice in a bottle, or wean super early just because "my mum/nan/monkey's uncle did it and I turned out fine":dohh: there's a Facebook page which I frequent where there's quite a few people who actually suggest those things to people when they ask for advice about one thing or another. Quite shocking really you'd think with the Internet so readily available that they'd do a bit more research.

Reading these comments makes me wonder about my lo. I'm pretty sure if I gave him something to eat he would look at me like, "Wtf do you want me to do with this, ma?" and throw it to the ground. :haha:

MommyJogger your boy is gorgeous!
