Keeping Busy - and a Baby Hope Chest?

Okay, so we're into the under two year mark of waiting to try. My problem is that while I know in my head we have things to sort out before we have children (the house, finances, weight) the other side of brain is going into overdrive with a never ending flow of 'want to try for a baby NOOOWWWW' and spending way too much time researching cloth nappies, au pairs, nursery must-haves and hypnobabies...

For those of you also on the long term waiting list for a stork visit, how are you keeping yourself mentally busy so you don't spend ALL your time thinking about babies???

Also... would it be weird to start a 'hope chest' for my future baby? I enjoy knitting and sewing and had thought of making a few little things (booties, beanies, etc.) to put away. I think my OH might think it was a little OTT though! Is anyone else doing this or something similar?

I don't think it's odd at all, traditionally women would have knitted and sewed for future children and grandchildren before there were conceived.
I started buying early in my pregnancy which unfortunately ended in mc but I will keep an eye out for things I know I want in the sale etc.
I bought the pram in the summer as we didn't keep the one from ds and it was too good a deal to miss and dh didn't bat an eyelid.
Xx

WhiteKhocol8 - I think it's a lovely idea.

I wish I could knit/sew/crochet myself. If I could, I'd have knitted a whole wardrobe's worth by now.

I think it's a nice motivation and it's nice to keep focused on positive things :)

great idea, my mum knits so will just get her to do it haha

Thank you ladies! So glad I'm not quite crazy! I'm thinking of making some gender neutral beanies and booties. I found roller skate ones recently that look easy and fun! Anyone else crafty and making anything cool for your future LO?

I helped mil make curtains cushions and bunting in neutral but colourful noahs ark theme and bright cot sheets out of double bed sheets in the sales.
But I'm really useless at craft without supervision

What a good idea. I like that! When you say bunting, do you mean over the curtains or over the cot/crib?

Thanks =) I knitted my first beanie today - gorgeous soft charcoal grey super wash wool, kind of an elfin look to the shape. I'm thinking of maybe finding some white clouds to appliqué to lighten it up. Will post a photo when I've seamed and blocked it, but I like it very much so far!

I was out literally all day yesterday so I'll try and take and upload today xx

I have knit a few things, hats, gloves, a cardigan, a blanket and I'm onto blanket no.2 (started it about a year ago, haha) they're all at my parents house tho so can't post pics. I have also bought far to many baby clothes and bits and pieces. If I see an absolute bargain I can't resist! I hope my OH never finds them! :haha:

I found the most beautiful handspun yarn last night - I think I'm going to knit up a Pea Pod (alternative to a blanket for when carrying baby or for when putting him/her in a sling/wrap for a bit more warmth). Broody85 I feel much better knowing I'm not the only one - thanks! How long is your wait?

My OH is quite against children ATM, so it could be a longggggg time :(

Wow they're big sorry!
I picked out the curtain material first and made them and lined with blackout fabric.
Then chose material from scraps in colours that Are In the curtains and cut out triangles for the bunting. I backed them in white materialand Tturned inside out before sewing onto binding ribbon as I think it hangs nicer that way.
I backed the cushion in a coral and cream material.
He has bright bed sheets made from sale double duvet cover and sheets but they're in the wash.
The window and banister are in a dulux colour called sea urchin (acrylic eggshell).
I picked corresponding emulsion test pots for mil to paint the canvas which was a picture I chose that she traced on in pencil first.

The whole nursery set-up looks just gorgeous! Makes me want to go get my sewing machine out. And now I get what you mean by bunting =)

We are going house hunting today - so hopefully I will have a space like that to dream about nursery things for soon =D

It was so easy to do on the cheap and a completely Blank canvas so it can be changed easily.
The floor and beams are just painted cream to match the furniture.
We stayed team yellow right up to the end but I dislike all the beige beige beige options for neutrality.
Xx

Wow what a sweet idea, I think even I could get the idea of a baby hope chest past OH. It's not necessarily the same idea as preparing for a baby, more a little collection of things in looking forward to a baby someday maybe. I've been looking at baby things for years and my tastes have changed, so as I don't know how long we'll be WTT I wouldn't commit to buying too much. But there are certain things I would love to have now, if I bought a few cloth nappies that would partly just be research surely  I may have just justified my first cloth nappy purchase...

Squashy, I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about buying the ones on clearance from the brand I think I'll be using when they come available! I mean, it saves money in the long run, right? :winkwink:

For the moment I think I'll stick with knitting little things - I found a pair of newborn no-scratch mitts I knitted a few years ago today, so I'll add those in with my thundercloud beanie from Friday.

Ok, so I found some pics on my photobucket of things I have bought...please don't judge :haha:
