Hya!
I need ladies with experience of SA. OH has just had his results and he has loads of the little buggers and they are moving fine etc... all his numbers are WAY up. :happydance:
But his strict kruger number is a 4% with 96% head defects. Now the reports does not seem to pick up on it as they say he is in the normal range for all major indicators including kruger as they say it needs to be 4% or more.

I am reading on different websites and it seems that some website say all men that do SA are around 5% these days (can it be that only couples that struggle conceiving do SA?) so 4-5% is pretty average... but then other site say that under 5% you would need ICSI if you were doing IVF and your chances are basically close to nothing of conceiving!

what was your OH's number and what did your doctor say? (we have to wait until 25th of August to see my Gynae as she is on holidays...:dohh:)

So what was your DH morphology according to the new strict criteria?

The Kruger strict crieteria are quite new - no more than a couple of years. Most reputable clinics have now converted but some older textx wouldn't have heard about this and before the minimum was 20% or so.

So as long as your test was according to the new Strict rules, anything over 4% is fine.

Ours was 8% to begin with and then 17% - but both count and motility were double the average so the FS wasn't worried at all

his strict kruger was 4%... so not ideal then but he has like 5.4 ml a good 66% motility (52% progressive) and he has 53 millions per ml so a total of 286 millions (which seems good!)
He has so far not really bothered cutting down alcohol, caffeine or taking his vitamins so I am hoping that all of that might raise the morphology up a bit.
They also seem to have picked up a probable infection but not sure how to go from there as this was prescribed by my gynea (i go private and it's all super quick) and now he will prob need to be referred to a urologist on the NHS... pfff

My DH's is 5% and like you say because his volume and motility are well above the benchmark his sperm sample has been deemed 'great' by 2 clinics.

Many websites are still referring to the old criteria so don't worry.

My DH has 1% morphology and my FS insists its ok even though the new rules are 4% maybe because motility and count were good, i don't know. His result came back as normal from the lab, it was only when i asked to see a break down I found out about the morphology, it would be interesting to see if any of us with low morphology get natural BFP's.

The only way they can ever know if the Sperm can fertilise the Eggs is when they do IVF and put them all in a dish and if your infertility goes on this will be your treatment option anyway so they don't investigate any more... this is what i've been told but so many people's DR's tell them something different I wonder if any of them actually know themselves???

I read this which was really interesting: https://infertilityblog.blogspot.com/2006/05/sperm-morphology-mythology.html
This doctor seem to think that they don't actually know what shape the semen should be!
I think because his number and motility are so good, it's overall not too bad.
It did get him motivated to cut down caffeine, and wear looser underwear :)
Loads of :dust: to all of us that we conceive soon!
I am waiting to try clomid in September, he needed to have goo results for us to start as you can only get clomid for a set period of time. Hopefully the results are good enough :)

I think that it may take all of us a little longer to fall because our DHs have lower numbers of "perfect" swimmers, but it's certainly not enough to ring any alarm bells. And that's what doctors mean by saying everything's "normal".

Like right now I seem to have gotten my PCOS under control and managed to ovulate pretty regularly - yet still no BFP. Secretly I do believe it's because of DHs' poor morphology - but all it means is that it will take us up to 12 months of regular ovulation to fall, rather than say first month of ovulation like it happens for a few ladies who start taking Clomid

hello ladies... i m married for 1 and half year... i conceived 3 months ago and miscarried at 8 weeks. doc says that there is some morphology issue... they did my husband test and strict criteria says subnormal sperm progression and morphology... on the other hand detailed reports says that there is 6 % spermatozoa... lateral progression is 57% and 100% abnormal morphology... though his motility is very good 73% and but rest of the report scared me... anyone of u experienced such thing... please share and let me know what we need to do???

Look up above everyone who commented on this thread got a BFP, mine took longer, but I got mine this year. I hope that gives you some hope xx

Dh started alphalimphoic acid and his resluts shot up. Try it!!!

Count- was 53 mill/35 mill- NOW 64million
Motility- was 37%/40%- NOW 65% progressive!!!!
Morphology- was 7%/5%- NOW 9%
