Hi, have never posted on a forum before so not sure of all the abbreviations but will try my best! Following the initial blood tests for infertility I have recently been told by my GP that I have had Chlamydia in the past but am not currently infected! This was quite a shock obviously and have realised will have to have a lap and dye now instead of the scan as fertility nurse said this would be the case when we had first appointment. We are due to see the FS mid Jan. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get a Lap and Dye on NHS, is it months on the waiting list or just weeks?

Also my DH has low morphology (6%) but good motility and count. Thinking this could be the reason its taking so long but am also worried chlamydia could have caused problems as well.

Any personal experience of a similar experience would be good too.

Hi!
For me, lap and dye was around 3 months wait. However i am not sure if its the same in all hospitals. Buts its good to have the lap and dye done because everything will be checked in one go.
I am sorry I don't have any information about your other concerns.
Good Luck with everything.

Hi Brabletess, I think it really varies on the hospital and the area etc. My circumstances were that my consultant said that he wanted to try IUI after I had HSG which was fine and 6 months of clomid. I was not happy with this as I wanted more investigations done so I went to my GP and asked if I could be refered to another consultant. I then received a letter and had to choose between 3 hospitals so called the one I wanted to go to and got a date to see the consultant a few weeks later when I saw the consultant he said that they tend to do the operation within 6 weeks of the initial letter being sent out. Well it was supposed to be last friday but they gave me the wrong time so it has now been put back to 12th Dec. To be honest though I was really suprised that it came through so quickly as the other consultant that I saw originally said that if I had it done I would have to wait up to 6 months. So it really depends on the area and council etc. Hope that helps!

It depends on the hospital, I had a consultant appointment and was told it would be about an 18 week wait and just a week later I got a letter telling me I was booked in for later this month, so if you are able to go in any time you might get called back sooner than intially told

It really all is about being patient and flexible. Thanks for your replies at least I feel prepared. I am glad i will be having lap and dye as at least I will get the complete picture. Pixielou Sprry to hear bout the mess up with the appointment, I KNOW how frustrating that is. Good luck for the 12th December - let us know how it goes.

HI Hun

i got mine on the NHS (west herts pct) within three weeks after my pre op assessment (which took two weeks to get).

My DH also has low morphology (8%) but good motility and a good count - so the FS wasnt worried as the good count outweighs the low morphology - they sent him for two normal sperm tests - and then sent him for a more detailed one where they check the low morphology isnt due to anitbodies or something - that came back all fine and the FS assured us that DH's sperm is fine and is not the reason we arent getting pregnant.

So dont worry honey.

hope you get your lap soon.

Thanks Becki, good to know your FS said the low morp is not too much to worry about if the count is good. I have not had a chance to talk to anyone about it yet. The nurse just said it was a gray area, not good but not terrible. Was your lap and dye result ok?

Its good to hear from people in a similar position.

HI Hun

Yep my lap and dye all came back fine - tubes patent, no evidence of cysts or endo - and whilst they were in there they saw that I had a nice follie about to pop so it made me feel a lot better about everything. I actually quite enjoyed having the op cos I didnt really have much pain, got to spend a few days vegging on the sofa and I think my belly button now looks more interesting with its little scar!!

I really hope yours does come through quickly sweetheart - cos it is such a relief to have some answers and be able to rule out alot of reasons why you arent getting preggers.

If you can I would ask your FS to give your DH the more detailed sperm test - just to satisfy any worries about the morphology.

Beckic - Yes I will ask FS for a more detailed sperm test for DH. When we went for the post coitel all the sperm were dead but my cm was still a bit acidic so it was probably too early anyway. I think the one this month will be too early too but they can only do them 2- 3 times a week and my window isn't huge.

Thats great news about your results from lap and dye, maybe it won't be too long for you guys espeically if you are feeling more relaxed - but do understand unexplained fertility is just as frustrating - more so maybe. When they checked me with that dubious looking mini fist scanner, I had a large follicle and very healthy blood lining and high progsterone levels too. So thats all good.

Thanks for all the postive comments, people are very sweet on here xxxx

I had mine within about five or six weeks of my initial appointment but it depends upon your area. Average is around three months.
