we have just had our first meeting with the fertility expert and after TTC for over 3 years he told me that the next stage will be a Laparoscopy. Can anyone shed some light on this procedure?

Hi Lady T!
I had a Lap in Januarty to remove an endo cyst and endo.
It's done as an outpatient (if on NHS) , they put you to sleep and stick a little camera through your belly button and make 2 incisions on your belly (in my case over ovary with cyst and c-section line - as that's where my endo was). They pump your belly with co2 to get some space. It lasts between 40 min and 2 hours, depending on what they find. they check your organs for endo, check your tubes etc, uterus etc.
it sounds scarry- and I was bricking it, but it wasn't that bad at all! the only discomfort you get is when the gas starts comming out, but the more you walk around , the quicker it goes. Oh and don't worry about scars, they are so tiny, I can hardly see mine!!!!!
good luck!

hi, I can't add a lot as Brumbar has covered most of it. But my lap was not so bad. The general anesthetic knocked me for six a bit and I was really tired for a week after but I was back at work after 3 days and never took any pain relief as it was not bad. just a bit sore.

I am booked in for one for the 20th May. I have my pre op on tuesday. Really not looking forward to it but Brumbar just made me feel a wee bit better so thanks honey! xx

I have a cyst on my left ovary and suspected endo.

Thanks ladies I will do.

Just hoping they dont find anything to nasty and my cyst is just a chocolate endo one!

xx

i have had one bit of pain after but that was it nothing to worry about xx :) xx

I had a lap in feb 2010. Wasn't that bad at all. I took some pain medication for two days then stopped. Everything was fine afterwards besides my belly button. It took forever to heal. It didn't hurt or anything it just oozed smelly discharge until it fully healed which was last week when the last stitch came out on it's own. It bleed which freaked me out, but after that bleed it never oozed again. Back to normal. The other incision healed much quicker.

I have had 3 Laps, for Endo and to remove a few cysts, and to repair bladder damage. The first two were out patient, and were not that big of a deal - just 2 holes and a 3rd in my belly button - but the last one was a doozy. I woke up on a Morphine pump, had to stay overnight - and really should've stayed longer - and had 6 holes - he almost had to open me up. BUT, that said it DID eventually bring me great releaf. I'm not trying to scare you with that last one, I just wanted you to know that even if it turned out to be more then expected, it will be OK.

Something that may help is to read over "Anne's Laparoscopy Tips" I would post teh site, but I don't have enough posts to do links yet. If you Google the above though, it should come up. Good luck with you!

Lap Manual

Found this on an endo website too.

It looks helpful for anyone else.

Hi

It can depend on what the lap is for... if you're having 'work' done (e.g. having endo removed) then you might find it knocks you around a bit more than if it's just an investigatory lap.
I had one a couple of years ago to remove endo and I was really sore afterwards.

Hope it goes well for you. Try not to worry too much beforehand :)

If they find endo they will be removing it I think. But I think they will go through all this with me at my pre op on tuesday?

I dunno what they are going to do about my cyst? Remove/drain it?

Just want this awful pain to stop. Sick of waking up in the middle of the night in agony.

Hi
Massive ((hugs)) - sorry you're in so much pain. Hopefully your lap will help.
Good luck for Tues
xx

I had a lap for endo in 2008. Trust me, the thought of it is far worse than the reality - especially if they are able to trest you as well. Good luck x
