Laparoscopy?

hi i had a lap & dye on 3rd feb after ttc number 2 for 17 mths with no luck. i was very scared about the procedure but had some symptoms of endrometriosis so i pushed for the op as wanted to find out for sure what was going on in there b4 we went ahead with iui later on in 2010. luckily nothing was found but i remeber feeling quite disappointed as i had gone thru the op with no answers at the end of it still! the op itself wasnt too bad honestly, the anesthetic made me quite sick after but it may effect you dif, my friend said she was fine after. i was due to ovulate 5 days after the op so got some needless syringes ( knew i wouldnt be up to dtd lol so thought i could insert my dh sperm that way as didnt want to miss a mth of ttc as heard after a lap & dye u are more fertile!) we used the syringe the day after the op & then 2 days after we repeated it. we then carefully dtd properly 2 days after that when i got my smiley face on clear blue opk! im very pleased to say i got my bfp on 20th feb so it worked!!! i had my 1st scan at 6 weeks which showed twins & 2nd scan last fri which confirmed im 13 weeks preg with twins :) the date they are giving me shows the times we used the syringes!!! good luck with the lap, it really is worth having it done!! xxx

Hi, I had my Lap & Dye last Monday - got myself very worked up and cried a bit but after it was over (which seemed to be 10 mins) i was very groggy but that's all! One piece of advice - get them to write stuff down. I asked my nurse to write down what they'd found and what to do when i got home but she said i was fine and i'd remember - not true! It's taken a couple of days for it to come back to me so for the past week i've been wishing i'd asked this - wishing i'd said that! Absolutley nothing to worry about at all and if your anaesthetist is as 'HOT' as mine was you'll go to sleep with a very nice view!!!! Good luck xxxxx

I have my pre op appointment tomorrow! Worrying about that now. Hate having my blood taken! Oh well. All for the greater good.

That's the easy bit. Mine was weeks ago , it seems so strange that it's supposed to be pre-op (in my head just before your op) but then you have to wait weeks to get appointment for actual procedure.

Frustrating times ahead but you'll feel so much better once it's done, and like someone said in a previous post, it's another step closer to the BFP!

My op was meant to be a week on thursday but they moved it back 2 weeks. Which I was rather upset about.

You dog is adorable by the way. We were going to get a bully but ended up with white boxer! Lol.

hi my docs suspect that i have endo n asked me to go for a laparoscopy but she made it sound so scary that i refused! reading this i might go back and agree to it now. thanks guys x

I had my pre op appointment. They took blood & asked me loads of questions. If they find endo they will remove it. There will be no removal of ovaries or anything though if they want to do that I will have to have another op.

They even asked me what I was scared of and the thing that scares me the most is the general anastetic, but that is because of bad past experience!

Will keep you updated.. only 3 & a bit weeks to go till my op.

Aww keao15 - I know it's scary, especially if you've never had surgery, but it IS the only way to diagnose Endo - which can be a major cause of infertility.

Hi ladies - can I join....

I am in the process of being reffered for a lap...I have a 2cm fibroid in my uterus which my previous dr was blaming for my symptoms. I had it shaved down a couple of years ago but it has since grown back. Anyway, my dr seems to think that though my fibroid is there it is more apt to cause mc not infertility. I have not been pg once in almost 12 months. So he wants me to go to the states to have a lap done and I have a few questions.

Do you recommend a certain time in your cycle to have it done?

Should we still ttc in that month?

How long after the surgery can we dtd?

dancing - can you explain to me how you got the spermies in the syringe....I know this sounds silly but my dh might not be into this, but I will try just about anything.

Thanks so much!

Some people say it's best to have lap done round about your period as it makes it clearer where the endo is (assuming there is any) but you might not feel comfortable with this and it depends what your doc says. In the UK on the NHS you get your appointment and have no say really in when the op is done. I guess in US you get more say.

No ttc'ing that month, the anaesthetic and the op itself would not help implantation etc.

Wait until the bleeding has stopped and you're not in too much pain, your doc may give you more advice.

I've had two laps, they dx and removed the first time and the second time drained a cyst and removed yet more. From my reading it is more successful if the cyst is removed otherwise it just refills and there seems to be better results from excision of endo rather than burning off. If you have the choice go for a gynae that can do excision.

Recovery for me took a while but I had endo on bladder, pelvis, both ovaries, pouch of douglas, right ovary was stuck down with scar tissue/adhesions. Laughing hurt! Moving around helps the gas dissipate and peppermint tea/capsules can be helpful.

thanks fifi - that was very helpful...did your periods flow and pain subside after the surgery cuz mine is horrible.

Yeah thanks for the info. I have mine a week today. Hopefully I'll be up and home by this time next week.

Yep and they know I have a cyst on my left ovary which could be chocolate.

I have severe pain some months, other months none. Some it starts earlier in my cycle some later.

I ended up in A&E (ER) once because of it.

Sex is painful sometimes.

I also have other problems though like I once had PID (pelvic inflammatory disease).

This lap is just an explorative one really. They will remove endo if the find it though.

well g/l and please let us know how it all goes...i wish mine was next week just to have it over with...the waiting I think is the worse.

I am so nervous/scared/worried about it. I have had a bad experience with GA (general anaestetic before though so that is to blame for the most of it.

Just want it to be over.

xx

well I think you will be ok, just be sure to tell the anesthsiologist that you have had a bad experience and he might change the drug so it doesnt happen again.

Yeah thats what the nurse said when I went for my pre op.

I will be fine aslong as that works out fine.

I think so too, when I went in for my Hysterscopy last year...I had never been under general so I told that anesthisologist that and told him I was scared so he gave me something to take the anxiety away....That was wonderful, dh took a pic of me after he gave me the shot bc I had this huge permagrin....maybe ask for some of that...hahahahaha
