:) Hey ladies :flower:

I'm just looking for any experiences having laser eye surgery.

Somebody pretty close to me is thinking of having it, and has booked a consultation to check eligibility. They're looking for reviews to see if it's worth it. They have two kids and pretty bad eyesight, so hate they they have to wear glasses even while playing etc. (Main motivation for it)

Any insights? Good things, bad things?

They also asked if i knew how much roughly it would be - Sadly i have no idea! Any insights ladies? x

My mom had both of hers done last month. Shes squeamish about surgery things, and said it was fantastic. Would do it again a heartbeat, went back to work that same afternoon!

My dad had one eye done 2 weeks ago, and has an appt for his other eye tomorrow morning. He whined on about it way more than mom- as most men will do!- but he did fine also, no problems. Both reccomend it to other people.

Sorry, no clue what they paid! I know insurance covered moms because she had cataracts developing...

I had it done in sept 2011. It is by far the BEST thing I have ever spent money on. I had it done at optical express. My eyesight was -4.00 in both eyes and I had the flap created by the surgen and not the laser (to save £££) I had them corrected to the eye and not just corrected as if I would be wearing contact lenses.

Cost; I put a £1000 deposit when I booked the op. I took finance out for the remaining 1799 (or there abouts) I chose the 2 year payment plan and I pay £83 each month by direct debit, due to end this autumn!!!

Eyes can be dry but everything was completely back to normal after 6 months.

I would recommend taking the earliest possible slot in the day. That way you can get it over with and not worry all day about how horrible it is going to be. Its actually not tbat bad and the whole process takes max 2 minutes per eye.

My hubby had it done about two years ago. He had a very bad reaction to it, he couldn't see the day after the op and was rushed to an eye specialist in London. It was quite scary really. But after about 10 days his eyes were back to normal and he has perfect vision now, and despite all the drama he still says he's so happy he had it done and would recommend it to anyone. I know a few other people who have had it done as well and they had no problems at all.

My ex and his Dad had it done. My hubby had his done, 3 of my friends have had it done and they says its the best £3000 they have ever spent. If i had the spare money i would have it done

Update: hey guys :)

It was my other half that was looking into it - I just didn't put that because he wasn't sure whether he wanted people to know he was considering it until he'd made his decision.

So, we went for a consultation yesterday.. And it may seem very fast, but he's booked into surgery on Monday. I'm bloody terrified!

He wasn't sure whether to do it. He definitely wants it done, so that he can play with his kids properly. Riley keeps knocking/breaking his glasses during play-fights. The only reason he was unsure is because it's a lot of money to spend on himself.

So, we went for the consult and it was the best outcome we could have hoped for. His eyesight wasn't so bad - even though he can barely see these days. And they can operate even though he's diabetic :) you get told to never expect to pay the 'from' price that they offer (which is £595 per eye) . Most people seem to have paid at least 2.5k altogether.

Well, my oh was offered the £595 per eye ,- so £1090. And they said if he wanted a cancellation date, to get it out to the way, they'd take off 20% . (It's a reputable company, optical express).

So, he's booked in Monday morning - £952.

Ill let you know the results. :) it'll be nice for him to be able to see 5-6ft in front of his face without glasses bless him. X

I want this fine but don't think I can. I have very bad eyesight and have nystagmus I was born with it so I don't think it can be fixed

The consultations are free sweetie, so it's worth asking if you're not 100% sure x

ooh you will have to keep us updated...as im considering getting it done. i was just worried that if i got it done now at only 25 my eyes would get bad again and they wouldnt be able to fix it.

My oh is only 23. They told him his eyes will be back no 20-20 vision (usually), but that they will deteriorate with age just like anybody else's eyes. He can have the surgery re-done in years to come, just like anyone can :) x

I really want it, let us know how it goes.
I'm very scared of the idea of them touching my eyes

OH is too - They 'clamp' your eye, while the procedure is done.

If it helps anyone - You don't feel the whole thing. You have anasthetic drops to numb the eye. It's also only 40 seconds per eye - the actual procedure. You're in the room less than 15 minutes - with an hour pre-op (Signing forms/putting drops in to numb the area etc).

So he'll only be there 90 minutes, then I'm bringing him home :) I'll definitely let you know how it goes tomorrow. x

Main side effects are - Blurry vision for a few days. Dryness/a sensation of something in the eye for 2-3 days.

just to let you know I was in and out of the building in 40 min,def not 90 like they told me. Hope all goes well,he will be amazed with the results. Im trying to convince my OH to have it done.

also if you dont mind me asking what is your oh's perscription?? the cost is wht is holding my partner off as mine was near 3k to have done but his perscription is half of mine so im wondering what the difference is.

Good luck!
Let us know how he is!
I am wanting mine done, but currently to much of a wuss to even try contacts! Xx

Gosh I can't quite remember my other halfs prescription, but it was all very minor. Like -1.25 and something else similar . Though he could barely see without glasses haha.

We've just got back from surgery, he's laid in bed unable to open his eyes haha. He came out of the room within five minutes, looked fine and could see. Just his eyes wouldn't stop watering, which was to be expected. They told him the anaesthetic would wear off soon, so we went straight to the car.

He's fine now, he has no pain or discomfort. It's just that his eyes feel very heavy and wet. He is just laying down with his eyes closed to rest them, he's not in pain at all. Ill let you know how his vision is, we won't know until he can actually keep his eyes open haha x

Edit - he said it was completely painless by the way. Didn't feel a damn thing and that's with lasek treatment (basic)

Ask him if it was weird seeing them poke at your eye? I'm scared I'd pay for it and change my mind last minute. Can't wait to hear how his vision is :flower:
