We currently have a carpet in the living room and it is ruined! Full of stains from us and the kids.

I don't really want another carpet but i do like the warmth from it.

I like the look of laminate with a large rug, but obviously quite pricey, thats why i added vinyl/lino in as well because I have seen some nice wood effect vinyl that i would like for the kitchen/bathroom.

What do you have and why?

What are the pros and cons of laminate in a living room? :flower:

I have carpet. I got a dark one to try and stop stains and just clean it with a cleaner. It was a cheap one as we also had to decorate a whole house in one go, and I just couldn't afford to do everything fully. It's alright though :) I like laminate but it gets cold and dust and marks drive me loopy (even though I did clean our old floor alot) hmm. Both have pros and cons tbh xx

We had laminate. It was so so cold. We had a large rug but it was a pain a LO hated the laminate so would be confined to the rug. I hated it under my feet when sat on the sofa so ended up buying a huge rug that was worse than carpet to keep clean!

When renovating our new house I immediately opted for carpet but made sure it was bleach friendly and was a light colour so it wouldn't fade in hard worn areas, also got high quality underlay.

Real wood is warmer than laminate.

Vinyl is slippery if its wet but is warmer than wood.

we have laminate but the real wood thick stuff that clips together. Not the cheapy one. I dont think its cold at all??

We have red carpet & it shows up any tiny piece of dirt. We've rug doctored it 3 times in the last year!!
Don't buy red carpet lol

pros of laminate - easy to clean up after kids/muddy feet etc

cons- shows up crumbs dirt but I would rather pick them up asap anyway so I know its clean x

i have laminate and hate it but have no choice as we rent and OH wont let me buy carpet to cover it, what we have is cold and it adds to making the room echoey, yes its easy to clean but id rather have warm chip free carpet also LO wouldnt have so many scratched dvds if we had carpet!!

im guessing we have cheap lino in the kitchen as i dropped a tin and it cut through the lino!!

Laminate. Very easy to clean, I even let Omar use finger paint to colour the floor

I hate carpet, my mum used to Hoover all day to keep it clean, we used to walk barefoot around the house & I hated the feeling of it.

We have laminate, but not the cheapy one that looks tacky, nice expensive one that cost us a small fortune. I absolutely LOVE it (even though I have to hoover it once/twice a day, but that really doesn't bother me) and it's not cold at all? Just the same as it was when we had carpet but it looks so much nicer :)

I have laminate with a rug and I find it better than carpet as it is so much cleaner it is not cold. I wouldn't put lino in my living room.

Danielle we got our laminate because of Tegan's wheelchair and so far it's been so much better :D

but red carpet is soooo christmassy!!:haha:
:xmas5:

i've got carpet, had real wood floor at my old place but the dust drove me mad, as soon as you'd sweep or hoover more would appear!

Mmm.. Still can't decide :)

Think I will let OH see your replies and see what he says, so far I have a pass to do what I want.. but I want to make sure its right and we are all happy with it.

You may be able to see more dust on wood but the thought of it just sitting on the carpet makes me queesy lol it does not take me long to brush up x

we have laminate, ours was fairly cheap but it looks nice enough. r living room is about 30ft by 13ft so we couldn't afford hardwood although that would've been my number one choice. I still like the laminate, carpet is hard work with a baby. But I'm thinking we should've gone for lino that looks like wood, sounds gross but our laminate is starting to split a little where it joins and that bothers me. Also lino is cheaper.

We have laminate with a big rug and I much prefer it! I don't notice it being cold at all and it's so much easier to keep clean! The rug on the other Hand is stained from spilling things and always needs hoovering, I'd never cope keeping on top of a carpet haha

Well I do manage to keep on top of our carpet we have one of those Hoover sweepers and its amazing!

Its only really stained as we haven't got a dining table so us and the kids have to eat in the living room :( We are moving in about 2 weeks so will have a table so would like nice flooring for the lounge.

We had carpet when we moved in, then changed to laminate (never buy cream carpets with a baby lol!) and now we're back to carpet and I love it, so much warmer.

We opted for carpet, my mum had laminate and im sorry, but i was always frozen in the living room, in the winter, id never go bare foot, always thick socks [just my experience].

We had a cream carpet in our previous house, but then when we moved we chose a really good quality, thick light brown carpet so that stains werent too obvious [a must if you have a toddler] but we also chose a high end and more expensive underlay...underlay make all the difference IMO.

We have laminate in the hall but its crap stuff that was already here when we moved in, but we wanna get a good quality laminate for there and are currently saving a few pennies for it and hope to have it down for the new yr.

xxx
