:) Think I'm gonna start the diet part on Monday once I've bought some healthy food over the weekend but gonna hit the gym on Sunday!
This will be a good place to post any useful websites, links etc as well as sharing tips and success stories! Good luck, here's to some bfps on this thread!

Hi
I would be interested in doing this as well as im waiting to start fet soon and trying really hard to lose some more weight but i seem to be stuck, i was very overweight and lost 6stone last year due to cutting out rubbish but i still have 2 to lose and cant shift it at all i stopped losing at xmas and i havent been eating bad or anything, grrrr, its so annoying, im not sure how to go about the gi diet strict have you any websites on it or books you would reccomend for me, i eat a lot of fruit and veg anyway, but i must admit i love bread but eat a low gi bread. hoping for lots of tips here, i also have pcos and dont ovulate at all and all my previous 7 ivfs have ended in a bfn or a m/c so am going to give strict gi a go now.

Unfortunately my SUPER book about a very effective Low GI diet is not in english. But first of all you need to cut out all sugar, all white bread, white pasta, all kinds of rice, potatoes, and cooked carrots plus oatmeal. You can eat fruit but only low Gi fruit such as apples, pears, berries and your meals should always consist of low carbs together with protein and fat.
Fx a Low Gi breakfast which is in my book consists of i:

Greek youghurt 2% 250g
almonds/nuts 35 g
apple 350 g/ or pear 330 g/ or grapefruit 400 g

This meal has 30% protein 30% fat% and 30% slow carbs and is fantastic because it does not bother your blood sugar at all.

I will give you a few more examples later if you are interested.
All the best wishes
Amber

I hope I can join even though I haven't been super strict with low gi - although you ladies have inspired me to do better! I hope it works for all of us!

can i ask what the low gi diet is supposed to do? is it supposed to help you conceive???

One of the problems with pcos is insulin resistance which can be helped by a low gi diet, which can sometimes help the other symptoms of pcos!

Can i join, just started doing low GI although i did have a subway today naughty me!

I'm not overweight I am maybe 5 lbs extra and just wondering what, if anything, I can do? I was just diagnosed with PCOS due to severely cystic ovaries. I also have all the other symptoms too but my main one is the cystic ovaries. Thanks

I am not really overweight either, maybe just a few pounds heavier than I should be, but I carry weight around my waist, which is a symptom of pcos! I started another thread on here, before Amber started this one where I mentioned in 2.5 years of ttc, the one bfp I got was when I'd recently joined the gym and really watching what I ate, and since every test has come back clear, I am wondering if there is something in this! It may just be a coincidence but seeing as I am now unexplained with only pcos to contend with I'm going to test my theory!

Well good luck! I have the weight around my belly too. But it's not really much - just looks like I am bloated. However, they aren't 100% sure that I have PCOS because I can get pregnant and I DO ovulate on my own but I don't think I do every month. I did this month and I am pregnant but I am cautious. Last one I had I MC early due to blighted ovum but my ex had really low sperm count, and bad motility/morphology due to taking depression medicine for 10+ years. I left him for other reasons. Also when I was pg that time I had no idea, no symptoms other than late period and thought was just from the cyst they found. My fiance now has no sperm issues. We got pg first month too. That cyst is gone, and everything is clear in there other that the cystic ovaries. So there is hope out there! I eat very healthy - no fast food! I don't think my diet is my problem - I think that I just have cystic ovaries.

They said I only had the cysts but not the syndrome but I disagreed with them
And told them I have quite a few of the other symptoms! I am the same as you, I do ovulate on my own, just not every month! I think they'll put me back on clomid for a few more cycles but am going to try this first!

Well good luck hun. I actually got pregnant this month, trying not to get too excited yet as I am scared I will MC again. I am in a different mind set this time thuogh and with a new man. The cysts they found are tiny follicular cysts and they're on both ovaries. The only other symptom I have is irregular periods sometimes if a cyst grows. But generally my periods are 28-30 days apart.

Well that's lovely news! Congrats! I hope everything works out ok this time! Stay positive! x

Just reserved a book at the local library that has lots of recipes for low gi - if I find any good ones I'll share them :)

Great to see that so many joined. I believe that low GI diet really has a great impact on most people´s fertility. In one fertility clinic in Denmark they specialize in low Gi diet and out of the people who become pregnant there more than half did not even have to take hormones at all. They only changed their diet. I called this clinic and talked to the doctor´s wife and she told me that they had put 7 men with low sperm quality on the diet and out of the 7 men 6 could get their partner pregnant within a few months. So if your men are having problems with sperm have them eat the diet with you.
Now I am skinny and I have endometriosis, low progesterone but regular ovulation but not PCO. However, the only thing that really has made a big impact on my cycle was when I did the low Gi diet which makes me think that I probably have some insulin problem (also ate a lot of sweets for many many years.)
I actually think that if I stick to the diet for the next 3 months I will be pregnant within that time :happydance:

Good luck to you all and Meghan congratulations on your pregnancy. The diet also helps a pregnancy stay,
Amber

LOW GI DIET-EXPLAINED
- for those of you who wonder what is the point about this particular diet. Insulin has a great impact on our reproductive organs. If you have too much insulin it can affect your fertility by making no ovulation but it also works in more hidden ways fx by making less good ovulations and by creating a bad environment for an eeg to implant or causing early miscarriages. When you eat a lot of fast carbs (carbohydrates are really made into sugar in the body) then your blood sugar goes up fast and it takes a lot of insulin to manage many carbs. A diet with many carbs will also make you crave more sugar and makes many gain weight. When you eat a low GI diet your blood sugar curve is pretty straight so to speak and this has a very good impact on fertility (and it controls your appetite as well)
The key is to avoid sugar and fast carbs, cut down on slow carbs, eat a lot more protein and also a little more fat. (yes a diet with more fat and protein actually will make overweight PCO-women loose weight more easily than normal low fat diets)
Amber (sorry the explanation is not that fantastic, it is a bit complicated)

Carbs that you can eat freely on a GI diet include:
raw carrots, peppers, broccoli, avocado, cucumber, tomato, onions, asparagues, salat etc. Of course there are other rather slow carbs you can eat but these are absolutely free in the diet. You can eat as many as you like because they do not disturb blood sugar.
Amber (ttc 4+ years. I will start my diet on thursday.)

SMILEYKEZ have a good time in the gym today :)
