Received my 50mm 1.8 yesterday. Very excited to start learning to work with it. I did get a visa giftcard and I was thinking about what else I need for my camera. Anything you ladies can't live without? And what is your favorite editing software? Photoshop?

I got a 50mm f/1.4 for Christmas. LOVE it, but need to learn to use it more. It's more complex and the DOF is so different to what I am used to... Makes me realise my MF skills are non existant xx

just wanted to share a few I took over the past month. Just got a 50 mm 1.8 so it will be fun play with over the couple months. I would love advice on how to get better. I know it takes practice but if anyone has any helpful tips I would really appreciate it! Hope you all had a great holiday and a happy new year!

Hi ladies, quick question, when your in your manual settings there are all these other things other than ISO, shutter speed and aperture, do you mess with them? So many settings on this camera it's hard to know how to use them all.

Do you mean the autofocus mode, metering, focus points, etc? I don't change those on a regular basis because the way I have them set up works for most of what I shoot, but I did configure them at one point. I do sometimes use a custom white balance when the lighting is weird, but most of the time I don't bother because I'm lazy. If you're just getting started I wouldn't worry about that stuff too much yet.

I'm so excited I can finally stop stalking and join this thread! I got a canon rebel t3i for Christmas! Unfortunately my computer died the same day so I won't be able to upload til I get my new laptop next week. But that just gives me a little time to play and figure it out since I'm totally new to the world of real cameras. But so far I'm in love.

I've only had my camera for a few months, so am still very new to it all myself. Have you read the first post? Other than that I think it is all about trying and taking pictures and having fun with it. You will soon see what works for you and what doesn't.

Loving all the new pics. You ladies all have fab skills. Jade, try more with natural light and avoid the flash my dear. Light source behind you mostly. Does the 600D have CA mode on the dial?

Yay for all the new posters!

jade - really cute shots. She's so expressive! I agree with Kitty, skip the on-board flash and stick with available light when possible. If pics are too dark you can try increasing the ISO or widening the aperture (lower number = wider).

here are a few I took this past week. I am liking my pictures better now that i am tweaking my settings a bit. Im having a bit of a problem getting the hang of my new lens. Im not sure what I am doing wrong, they look beautiful when I take them but look blurry when I upload them to my computer. Anyone have any advice?

Se is so beautiful andbthe shots are brill. LOVE that hat. Are you using manual focus my love? I find the depth of feild tends to mean auto focus in the slightest wrong spot and the detail can look all blurred so have to use manual. Also I take twice as many pics now and just discard the awful ones xx
