Great photo. I love those kinds of shots too - baby cheeks are the best! It reminds me of a pic I took of Elsie a few months ago...

Oh bought me a new laptop so I can finally upload a few photos! ( Since I don't know what I'm doing they are all unedited.) These are some of the first pictures I have taken.. I have NO idea what I am doing so any helpful tips would be great.

Hope it's not too late for a new member! Just got my first 'real' camera today (not point-and-shoot). I know a whole lot of nothing about it and figure it will take some time to really learn the ins and outs of the camera but I'm really looking forward to subjecting Callum to numerous photoshoots so I can learn!

The camera I bought is a FujiFilm FinePix SL20...I didn't want to get anything too extravagant since I can hardly navigate most point-and-shoots. I'll post some pictures tomorrow...don't expect them to be any good though.

Okay here are some shots I took today. I took like 197 in total and kept 10. I'm still pretty terrible. Also the lowest my aperture will go is f/3.1....sooo I don't realyy even know what that means.

Anywho they're good for me but nowhere near as good as you ladies. That also probably has to do with the type of camera but we don't have a ton of disposable income right now so I had to make do with what we could realistically afford.

I took this one in black and white and then edited the brightness in GIMP (it's a free photo editing program like photoshop but not as fancy...I still barely understand it though)

Hello ladies!! I love photography but don't know too much about it yet. I'm learning very slowly. I have a Nikon D5100 and I use Light Room 4 for editing. I would love to learn how to shoot in manual more often. The christmas photo I was trying to be focused on my daughter and the tree blurry in manual mode but it wasn't working great for me. lol

When in doubt, underexpose a little. You can always adjust a slightly underexposed image later in post-processing but you can't get back details that have been overexposed. Also, shooting in RAW is great for giving you a lot of flexibility in manipulating the exposure after the fact.

As far as avoiding blue color, that's something you can also change in post-processing but it's usually easier to just set up a custom white balance before you take the photos. There are special cards you can buy for this purpose but usually I just take a photo of a blank white piece of paper (make sure the lens is on manual focus) and then set the camera to use the info from that shot for the white balance.

I have a Canon EOS 1100d with an 18-55mm and a Tamron 70-300mm lenses.

I can't seem to upload anything on here anymore unless its from my phone because it says file too large! So I'm going to start a photobucket account once the kiddies are in bed and I'll upload some tonight.
