Yes, use that while you are getting to grips with it. It helps give you control over the iso and aperture without you having to understand either. It's what I used when getting to grips with mine. If you go onto CA and then press set, you use the clicky dial thing behind the shutter button to change each setting. Assuming it is set up as mine is on screen (but I have 500D) the top line allows you to change the flash to always off, press down on the menu pad to get to the next line and that SHOULD be the "aperture" setting where you can make the background more or less blurred, clicky dial it to the left to blur background. Press down on the menu pad again and that is the ISO/shutter speed line where you can tell the camera to take in more or less light. So if somewhere real dark clicky dial to the right to let in more light, this slows the shutter speed however so a moving subject is likely to end up more blurry. If somewhere bright you clicky dial to the left to take in less light, this speeds up the shutter speed.

Just a warning though, if you leave it too long between photos it will default all levels back to standard so flash might pop up etc so just keep an eye. It's a good way to learn what your camera can do without having to understand too much about the science of it and the impacts of aperture/ISO and shutter speed n each other etc.

Good luck, have a play today with Millie near a bright window. Make sure she is facing the window and you don't cast a shadow with your body. Set the camera to non flash, background blurred and a generous amount of light and shoot away. Take at least double the pics you think you need to so you can just delete the crap ones and still have some.

Thanks Kitty! I think u are right. I need to remember that. Thank u! I'm just glad she lets me take pictures without freaking out haha. Btw if I didn't live in the us I would totally buy your headbands they are fabulous and adorable!!! Seriously jealous of your skill with headbands and with taking gorgeous pictures!!!
