March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

They do keep similar patterns don't they!!! Hope you enjoyed your better nights sleep!!

I'm going to have to bolt the swinging crib to stop it swinging when we don't swaddle Dharma. We left her with just a blanket on last night and she wriggled so much she repeatedly ended up tipping the crib and face planting herself on the bars!!!

Good morning everyone! It's still morning, right?

Sending loads of good luck and positive vibes to FT. Hopefully there will be a baby by the end of today.

Wu - Gorgeous pictures of Noah, such a handsome little chap!

I am in awe of all your breastfeeding ladies. I decided to go bottle this time as they last two times I didn't produce enough milk. In fact with my second daughter Amy I didn't porduce anything. This time however my boobs seem to be single handedly trying to end world hunger. I'm sure they're doing it to spite me as I can't breast feed now due to the medication I'm on for the reaction I had to the surgical scrub. Nothing I do seems to help. The midwife suggested putting them in the tightest bra I own. That just served to make them more uncomfortable.

Emera - I hope Freyja is feeling better with her cold. Jessica now has a little cold which is making feeding difficult as she's very snuffly. We have some saline spray, which really helps, but I have a feeling she's going to hate me soon.

Witch Hazel, wouldn't that be stingy on stitches or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

In relations to stains I tend to cold soak items before washing them, but I guess bottle milk is easier to get out.

Today is my first day on my own with Jessica as the husband has gone back to work and the girls are at school. PANIC!!! My rash around my scar is very sore and painful, It doesn't seem to be getting any better, it may even be getting worse. So another trip to the doctors. I also have the health visitor coming tomorrow.

C3po, sorry to hear that Jessica has a cold. Dharma sneezes all the time, but I don't think it's a cold. It must be horrible for her :hugs:

I'm trying to not think about Al going back to work. I feel too weepy at the idea of him not being there through the screaming times to sit with me and tell me it will get better. Take Jessica out for a walk maybe? I just got back from one and feel loads better for it!

We have an appointment at the town hall this afternoon to register Dharma. I must remember to actually turn up to it!!!

lads... advice on dummies please... not bothered either way but would like to know your experiences with using them at the same time as BFing if possible... how do you know when they need comforting vs feeding?? hmmm...

Loo, seems she's keeping up with her sisters who both had colds at two weeks old. I suppose it's to be expected when there's siblings. I just gave her a blast with the nasal spray and a load of boogies flew out. She's breathing so much better now.

I'll be taking Jess out later onthe school run. To be fair she's been quite good this morning and slept from 8:30am until 12:30pm. She's now having some wiggle and hiccup time on her mat.

Waula - When I was breastfeeding my first (14 long years ago) I had to give her a dummy as she was always on me. I found if she just wanted the comfort of sucking then she would readily take the dummy and settle. If she was hungry the dummy was fired out after one or two sucks.

My middle child Amy and Jessica both refused point blank to entertain a dummy. I don't know if being bottle fed from the start had anything to do with that prefference

ETA: Jessica has developed a sticky watery eye now thank's to her cold. I have been bathing it with cooled boiled water with a teeny amount of salt in.

Waula I've started with the dummy n the last couple of days, she won't always take it. You'll tend to find that if they are genuinely hungry then now way will they settle with a dummy!!I tend to use the dummy after a good feed. If she's come off happily by herself and is a bit sicky (she over eats)then. Know she's full. I'll generally offer more boob, but she tends to bob on and off because she's not actually hungry. That's when they dummy comes in. She wants to keep sucking but no way needs more milk. If she gets hungry agan I find she'll get more antsy and reject the dummy. If not she'll go off to sleep :)

C3p0 - hope your day goes well on your own! :hugs: hope they can find somwe medication that works for your reaction, must be very irritating!
Freyja is still a bit snotty, and it is making feeding tricky at times, like you we are using saline drops (wow the look of total horror on her face when the saline got to her throat!!!) it helps clear the snot though!

Well took Freyja and myself to our 10 day check (its actually day 13 but hey) and we've been discharged to the HV  been given Fybogel (BM are still a real chore!!) And some physio exercises to help sort out my pelvis, as the pain is gone, but I still feel very loose when I walk! 6reyja s doing amazingly well! She was 7lb13oz on day 3 and now 10 days later weighs 8lb 9oz! Love these proud Mummy moments :D

Thanks C3P0 - he's just had a changed nappy, lovely feed, good burp and is fast asleep in his pram loving the dummy action...just wish i didn't feel so bad about it - I've always said I'd be happy to dummy him but these flippin hormones are telling me something else...sod off hormones. xxx

Thanks emera - really love the BFing but after being vom'd on 3 times last night due to him completely pigging out I figure he could do with a slightly longer nap inbetween feeds (3 days of 90min interval feeds is taking its toll on me!) so fingers crossed...

And huge congrats on the amazing feeding you're doing with Freyja - get you!!!! :hugs: xxx

Emera, that's a fantastic weight gain!

I did something very silly and Googled allergic reaction to surgical scrub. Scared myself half to death as there have been cases where the skin on the affected area dies. I don't think I'm that bad, but I am definitely going back to the doctors this week.

Jess started dozing on her mat, so I've popped her upstairs in her moses basket to see if she'll go off for a nap.

Waula that's what Freyja does, keeps feeding and feedng and then vomming all over me her and the bed :dohh: sounds like Noah is having his growth spurt! It will settle before long ;)

Waula - you shouldn't let him having a dummy upset you. Easy said, but hormones can be a right pain in the bum. If having a happy contented baby with a dummy is failing, then we're all in trouble ((((hugs))))

I have a sleeping contented little Mia on my lap whilst watching jeremy kyle....:haha: reminds me of pre-mia mat leave days....seems like another life ago. We took her to starbucks today and just sat there both staring into her pram....we are soooo soppy about her. Hubby is amazed with this motherly instinct that has kicked in with me (so am i)....the least maternal person i know is......me :haha:

She is changing soooo quickly i got hubby to.get the camera out and i am going to.have it permanently by my side:happydance:...she is going to be the most photographed baby out there.

Dummy wise i am giving it a miss for another week or so as midwife recommended but then c3po, waula and emera your LOs are a week older. She did say about 2 weeks onwards is an ideal time.

Going to give sure start centre a call later this week...apparently i can hire an electric breast pump for 6 months for £5 bargain. Not really liking the manual one...need something quicker...although one time i tried it wasnt morning and only day 5 of bf. The milk supply is well estsblished now.....i think Mia needed me to.turn down the pressure this morning....gulp gulp and chuck back a fair bit at me...then straight back on.:happydance:

Waula thanks for the lansinoh tip....says its ok to feed her with it on...but that feels weird, i always wipe it a little. However in last day or so pain of nipples has subsided and i get 1-2 secs is stinging whe she first latches then its ok...happy days. I cant actually believe i am enjoying bf....sorry sound like a broke record:blush:

Oh just to say after a mammoth feeding session Mia went down at 11:30....slept to 3:45 ish (at which time she was stirring but not actually waking....i took the opportunity to top her up and change her and she wentthrough then from 4 til 7am :happydance:

Quick question (in haste with squirmy baby!). Astrid has got quite a lot of dry skin after her first bath (it was fine before!) It's not red or sore or anything but is flakey on her tummy and in the creases of her wrists and ankles. Should I be worried or what would anyone recommend to do about it?

xx

Mia has the same Laura....midwife suggested rubbing a little olive oil into her skin...did the trick on her belly. As you say i dont think its sore at all...olive oil is great for it:thumbup:

Laura, baby oil or olive oil after bathing. Jessica has very dry skin in her creases and has done since birth. When my Amy was a baby I would massage her with oil after her bath, it would calm and settle her ready for night time.

I'm hoping to do the same with Jessica.

Yeah olive oil is great stuff. Due to being overdue Freyja's hands and feet were really weird and wrinkled and had dry skin on when she was born (apparently a normal sign of an overcooked baby :haha: ) anyway her legs look like she's moulting! Layers of skin keep coming off! Its really normal :) just keep oiling them up :)

Ah, brilliant! thanks.

Is normal olive oil ok or should I get medicinal type?

Mitch I find it so heartwarming that you've discovered this whole other side to yourself, how lovely :) really glad that BF is working out for you its so practical that's the main appeal for me anyway  also can't blame you for thinking about hiring a pump I loved my electric one last time :)

Thanks for all the tips! Will be sending hubby to buy oxygen bleach later today.
Such a good day today - pain subsiding in my lady bits, energy starting to return, baby A sleeping well (makes me nervous, as she has a touch of jaundice and jaundiced babies need to feed a LOT which is hard when she's so sleepy) which means I get some good sleep too. Loving this motherhood gig!!

Dummies/soothers - haven't given her one yet, because I'd like to establish bfeeding first, but will be giving her one in a few weeks, I'm sure.

EDIT: sending my extra positive vibes out to Loo today! Hope your day goes marvelously and Dharma is peaceful :D
