March Mamas 2012 Baby Group (Closed Group)

C3po, I'm so sorry you have hives. That's got to be so stressful at a time like this. If you can't get through to the docs and you are really that worried just phone for an emergency house call, I'm sure they will soon fit you in :haha:

Good luck hun. xx

Sorry, Sea3po... Hope you can get in to see a doctor! Not what a postpartum mama needs!

Loo, have you ever seen the documentary "Babies"? They swaddle the Mongolian bby by tying a rope around it as tightly as they can, it's nuts!

Good night, lads, got to get up early for my dr visit.

C3po....:hugs:.hope you are beyter soon...that sucks
Loo..yeah for swaddling...i think.it makes a real difference with Mia. We swaddle tightly with one arm slightly up.and out...she likes that. Little concerned may make her a bit hot but we only use a flannelette sheet then lightly cover in blanket.

Mouse...agree with all other advice...my waters didnt break at.home so cant help with that bit. I always make sure i have water when bf....muslins dotted everywhere in.house and bought a couple of small sterilising hand gel to.use after changing etc. We have cats and i am a little worried about Mia being touched after that so.quick gel squirt does trick. Not all tge time...i sometimes forget in a hurry.between.jobs oops:dohh:

Anything else....ummmmmm Mia had another good night...eberything moved forward an hour as she spewef up ALOT of milk around 9:30pm last night and although she fed again before bed...i think a mixture of losing that milk stock.in belly and an earlier night meant everything shifted...so.instead of 3am and 7am...we had 1:30am and 5:30am..so she is nothing if not.ptedictable so far. Sleeping again now though:happydance:

Meeting the girls for lunch today...determined to sort out timing so when out for a coule

Damn phone !!!....meant to say that i.want to avoid feeding when.out. Should be able to.manage it as she usually sleeps well in car seat/pram but if everyone wants a hold...not sure how that'll go down. It normally stimulates her for a feed. Quick top in ladies room mmmmmmm :nope:

I feel the same about feeding in public Mitch, am just planning my trips very carefully and praying she doesn't wake up hungry!

I've just text FT and she wanted to pass on her love to all the Mamas!

Cupcake, she said Congratulations, and Rupert is a super name.

Glow, she said Happy edd, and hopes he makes an appearance!

George is doing really well and feeding like a trouper. She thinks they might let them home tomorrow, and she is going to update us all about her scary c section then. xxx

Great news about ft..cant wait to hear about the birth :) Fab that George has taken to bf so well :happydance:

Mia has fed at 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 already....currently on boob. Hoping she fills herself right up for our lunch date:haha:

Great news about FT...so pleased all is going well with George

Sea - hope you are OK hun...not what you need right now :hugs:

As far as BF in public I managed it.....I used to use a cellular blanket thrown over my shoulder and cover Emily and boob so no one could see...just looked like was cuddling. Once you've had to do it once you kind of lose the inhibitions and just go with it.

On breastfeeding out and about....I always wear a shawl or pashmina and will just use this as a cover. I couldn't give a monkey's though, but then I was always a happy naked child.

Sorry Sea3, hives are awful, can you pinpoint what you've reacted to?

Don't hate me but yes, mostly everything fits pre-pregnancy though I'm still in maternity as some of my dresses are very good for breastfeeding. I put on about 1 and 3/4 stone during pregnancy and have about 1/2 stone to lose. I figure it'll bugger off when I get out more.

Mouse, hope these responses are useful.

How messy does it get, exactly? - My waters broke in bed but I had a maternity mat on my side, under the top sheet and to be honest, I sensed something had happened very quickly so I was just a little damp between my legs. After that the waters continued to trickle out so I just stuck on a surfboard and probably changed it every 40 minutes. In the car to the hospital I sat on a maternity mat but in reality it wasn't needed.

How did you handle cleanup of any items that you used at that point - I didn't need to, everything stayed dry :)

Also, when you're home from the hospital how messy is the aftermath? Is there a good way to prepare a bathroom/bedroom for the postpartum time?
- If you stay in the main blood loss has stemmed during your time in hospital. During this time you may pass bits of placenta that are about a quarter in size. At home I never leaked and used big surfboards for about a week and then went onto mini pads. Two weeks after the birth my blood loss had finally stopped.

And what type of supplies is it worth having around for feedings, vomit, etc.? - I have some muslins dotted around the house and some IKEA flannels which have proved very useful. You'll find yourself changing the cradle sheet a lot due to spit up during the baby's sleep.

Waula, looks like we're still sharing a schedule. Monday was a feed-o-rama and yesterday was quieter. Today is shaping up to be another intensive one.

City, if your waters GO at home it can make quite the mess! I suppose mine last time made a puddle on the bed about the size of 2 dinner plates? Its thicker than water though so we had time then to whip the sheet off before it sank in and the bed was totally fine :) I had a towel under my bedsheet this time just in case and kept a towel by the bed so if I had to stand I could us it as a nappy!
As for actually giving birth at home, well, it made quite a mess! I was lyiing on a bed mat (like the puppy training pads) and when my labout got stronger I realised I wasn't going to be able to move, so my OH grabbed 3 more and sort of covered most the bed with them. Basically though once the birth was done, the mess covered most of a kingsized bed! I had plastic sheeting and stuff, but it never got used! :haha: I just used one of the bed mats like a nappy to get to the bathroom afterwards. The only real mess was my bed sheet and undersheet, and a bi of mess on the loo seat and bathroom floor, which is tiled, so not really an issue. The sheets came up like new after a wash wth some oxybleach, so all in all you wouldn't know! I had my pads for after and sat on a towel in case of leaks.
As for baby mess... Freyja is really sicky so we have burping clothes everywhere! I use one under her head in the moses basket too, or I'd be changiing her shee like 4 times a night or something! I try to make sure I've got water and mmy phone with me before I start feeding, and when I'm at home I use my feeding pillow, as its really comfy!

C3po - poor you! I really hope you can get to the doctors! :hugs:

Loo - hope you manage to get out to the diy store!

Mitch - have fun out with the girls!

Burping wise I was shown 2 brilliant burping techniques, one where you hold them upright on your lap and the over the shoulder one. However over the shoulder often leads to un detected sick down the back, so you can do the same thing over your knee, it works just as well. ;)

As for BF out and about, well it gets easier the more you do it! Try practicing nfront of a mirror at home. Sounds weird, but it gives you an idea how much other people can see, and generally its not as much as you think ;) i'm pretty shameless and tend to feed whenever and where ever its needed ;)

o i should add, i feed alot with my sling now and you can't see anything! will have to take a picture later!

AFM i have Roh's cold too now, ergh, not fun with the tiredness! Freyja is sooo conjested and the saline drops are only helping so much. Its making it really hard for her to feed well as she can't breathe properly, so last night was pretty dreadful! She also won't settle well in her basket or at all really due to the cold. To be fair if she feels like me then i can understand her just wanting a cuddle! Poor little mite!
Oh well colds don't last forever, right? OH and Roh have gone out to buy me Berocca and OJ, i'm giving this cold its notice!!!

Oh, TMI question. Lads who had vaginal births with or without tears/stitches. Is anyone else still finding BMs a real chore? I had a small 1st degree perennial tear, and its been healing fine, but pooing is still really unpleasant as i seem to have a couple of piles developed from the labour (joy! :dohh:) and any sort of pushing to poo is still bad news! I'm on the Fybogel (yuck) which helps to a point but yeah i dread pooing each day! Tell me i'm not alone?! Anyone found a magic cure?

morning/afternoon (?) lads...

noah likes to hourly feed from 11pm-4am. who needs to sleep when its dark when you could cluster feed in the early hours and sleep when its light. thank god for bronzer thats all that i can say!!!!! :haha:

hope you lads are all ok :hugs:

xxx

oh and emera - no vaginal birth here but on iron and horribly constipated and TMI but bleeding a bit from there too. how glamorous. don't know how you'd cope with this combo after a vaginal birth :nope:

Just a quick update, I promise I will catch up with everyone later, but I am so sore and itchy I just want to cry, ot take a belt sander to certain body parts.

I have an appointent to see a doctor at 3:20pm today. I had to actually go down to the surgery and show the receptionist my hands and stomach before she would book me in. The hives now cover my enitre torso and back as well as my hands. They're now working their way across my shoulers, down my arms and legs and up my neck. You can actually watch them appear on my skin.

City, in regards to handy things to have for feeding/vomitting. Muslins, muslins, muslins. Seriously you can never ever have enough muslins.

lozza, I did find the salt bath helped with the pain. It's very relaxing, and I found things a bit less achey afterward.
City, I forgot to mention receiving blankets. I find I tend to leak a lot when getting A to latch, and a receiving blanket close by is great for catching the stray drops before they get on my clothes or hers.
Emera, I've got a similar problem. Thought I got away okay as far as piles go (doc examined me after birth and didn't see any), but I got constipated after birth and now I think I have them too. Going to the pharmacy today to see if I can find something to soothe the pain.

Also, as far as feeding in public goes, I haven't got the nerve up to do it yet either, but I have this amazing nursing cover that I will use when i get up the courage to try. It's almost identical to this (but mine is handmade by my SIL): https://www.bebeaulait.com/products/bebe-au-lait-nursing-covers/chateau-silver

Morning ladies.

Sorry I haven't been on in awhile but I've been pretty busy lol. DH has now gone back to work today so today is my first alone with the baby. So far so good.

Do any of you have the fear of the baby choking when your not watching them? On our second day in the hospital our baby started to choke and turned blue! Luckily we were still in hospital and the nurses came in and helped to suction out his lungs. It seems he choked on some fluid that was still left in his lungs from the birth. Anyways since then, DH and I never leave him alone and now that I'm on my own its hard to get anything done. We have ordered a monitor that has a video screen so I can at least take it around with me if I wan to leave the room. Are my fears normal or a bit over-reative?

morning ladies!

i had some major issues with feeding in public. im very modest with my body (dont care what anyone says, childbirth does not make my modesty go out the window lol) and i have a lot of things from childhood im working through. im trying to find a bottle to express in and use but he doesnt like any we have tried so far. i time it to where i feed him right before we leave so i wont have to feed him while out. i have a nursing cover and some thin crib sheets to use as a cover in case i need them. there have been two times so far that he wanted to eat while we were out even though i fed him before we left. it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. it is weird to know you have a tata out while your walking around in front of people i think. i really think i will get used to it though. the first time i was at the store and covered him with the crib sheet. the next time i was at the library and used the nursing cover. the thing that i dont like the most is how hot he gets under something.

C3po - I take antihistamine daily for urticaria which is basically hives, if you're bf theyre basically ok as benefit outweighs risk for me. Hope you get them sorted as I know how awful they are.

We finally settled on a name... Zack Frederick. Seemed to go down ok with the parents, except my dad who is sure it will grow on him!

Was up from 2am to 7 am feeding last night, hoping for a better night tonight. Slept from 7 to 11 almost but haven't slept all day stupidly. Did make it out the house for the first time this afternoon, just a 10 min walk but nice to get air! Right off for a quick nap while DH goes for a push. Will do birth story wen I have time to get on laptop and before I forget!
P

Hi lads. I hope you all had good days? Dharma has kept up the constant screaming once she has left the breast until I relent and put her back on. I fed her for an hour and 15 before, she unlatched and I lay her on the pillow to do my bra back up and she just started screaming again. We have just decided to give in and try a dummy to soothe her. A bit earlier than we wanted to try, but we are at a loss of what else to do

She does however shut up when we drive or push in the pram so we had a nice hour choosing paint then a walk round the park.

I've got fat camp now. If I've lost any weight it can only be from my eye sockets. Sunken is not the word!!!
