Joanna, you're not a mean mommy! You're taking care of your baby and you're at a tough stage where they can't express appreciation back to you. Feeling frustrated is natural.
I think last night I dreamed that some strange troll-y poster came onto this thread, and I was highly offended. Unless it really happened... that's what happens when you check BnB in the middle of the night.
Thanks girls, it's nice to know that these feelings are normal. Today Kieran and I have had a good day, I was able to sleep in this morning and it has made my day much easier.
For those ladies who've been breastfeeding I have a question for you. Which are better, disposable breast pads or reusable? I bought a box of 60 disposable pads on Saturday and I'm through them all already! They don't absorb that much and I soak through them quickly. But the reusable kind only come in a pack of 6 so even if they absorb much better I'd need to wash them all the time - unless I purchase a bunch more of them. What do you think is better?
Joanna, breast pads wise, i have 9 or 10 pairs of reusable pads, which i tend to wear at home, and then i have disposable ones which i wear out usually. I always have a couple of pairs of disposable pads in my changing bag, just in case. I find the reusable ones are more comfortable in general, but if they get soaked whilst i'm out i have no where to put them really, i don't want to put them into my wet nappy bag with the dirtied nappies, so thats why i have both types
Word of warning, when you launder reusable pads, make VERY sure you have them inside the mesh laundry bag they should come with. They are amazing at getting inside the machine, disintegrating and then wrapping themselves into everything, breaking your washing machine and costing alot in repair call out fees!!!
This is apparently cluster feed afternoon/evening. Elliott's been doing 20-30 minutes on, 20 minutes off for the past 4 hours. So am I supposed to know when there's a milk "let down"?
I've been using disposable breast pads just because I was given a ton of them (leftovers from 4 different people). My leaking isn't too intense so I can use one all day.
OK.... so i signed on about 4 hours ago to do my birth story, and then digs decided he needed his 30,000th feed of the day... But here i finally go...
Ok. plot thickens. I just started to type out my birth story in detail..... but i cant do it so i will type this really quickly.........
It was a horrible experience and the short hand version is that digs was very distressed to the point of no HB being located during contractions. After a 30hr labour during which alot of alarms were pressed, we tried forcep delivery but it didnt work and so the surgeon performed an emergency c-sec. Digs was non responsive, blue, limp and had to be resuscitated when he came out. The silence lasted a long time.
When he did finally make a noise all of the theatre staff started smiling, clapping etc and the surgeon said afterwards that if they had tried forceps for any longer - it might have been a different story
I typed that super fast to get it over with and dont want to read it back. so i hope it makes sense.
Ive also put a spoiler wrap on it for those who dont want to read about labours which dont go to plan.
Ok, so as you can prob tell talking about it isnt my fav thing. But as long as i dont think on it then im fine.
and digs - George - is AMAZING. he is absolutely PERFECT..... even if he does tire me out with constant feeding He is such a cutie too.... total mini-me of his daddy.
ANDDDDDDDDDDDD he was only 7lb15oz.... at 12 days overdue! can u believe it? no toddler for me afterall Gutted thats not alot of weight loss though
other ladies who had a c-sec.... did they stick you on loads of meds afterwards? Im on codeine, para and ibu and it makes me feel i wonder whether to keep taking it as im not in pain.... but if i stop, the pain may be unbearable who knows.
anyway. sorry this post is sooooo lame but ive not had more than 5 hours sleep total since monday Hoping i can get on here tomo and be a bit more my old self.
CUPCAKE- soooooooo happy that u finally have baby Rupert..... i thinks its such a smashing name
right ladies..... digs is lurking for another feed and my ear has just gone deaf.... will catch you all tomo
Kymied, lucky you on not being to leaky! I have one side that leaks all the time so use 4-5 a day on that side. Less the other side. From experience it calms down after a few months
Let down wise. I can feel my let down at the moment, it feels a bit like you breasts squeeze themselves. For some people it can be quite painful. Again, it tends to get less forceful after the first couple of months, when i know i'm not likely to feel it much anymore. Some people have a gentle let down, and you won't really feel it if that's the case. Mine is a bit too forceful at the moment, and Freyja often unlatches and comes off coughing and spluttering. Not ideal, as the the boob is free and tends to spray everywhere, hence how i managed to spray a neighbouring table in Costa whilst feeding Roh one time!
FT - I'm really sorry that your labour didn't go as planned. The main thing is he is OK and so are you It must have been an awful experience which I hope you won't dwell on too much and I am sure with your sunny nature that through time it will become a distant memory and you will be able to remember the outcome.....gorgeous George more than the actual labour itself.
Much love to you hunni and good to have you back it's been VERY quiet without you
Aww FT! I'm sorry you had to go through that. But in the end everything turned out fine. Hopefully you'll forget the worry soon. I think you can take as little of the meds as you feel you need. Enjoy your baby snuggles. Has your milk come in?
FT, You've made me cry, and I'm not even hormonal any more. You don't need to dwell on it now that your gorgeous Digs is here (and hungry!)
As for your meds after the C... I'd keep taking the ibuprofen for awhile since it helps ease the cramps of having your uterus contract. As for the others... my doctor told me not to be afraid of taking them. There's no prize for toughing it out, and he said it's best to stay ahead of the pain. I healed pretty quickly, so I only took the heavy stuff while I was in the hospital the first 2 days. Once I was home, I never felt like I needed anything more than ibuprofen.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO course I'm not! I just mean you've pulled both these threads together and kept us all going and I am sure everyone will agree it's been kinda quiet without your cheery positivity and taking the time to think of everyone
Ft- big hugs to you!! That's basically what was happening with my bub! It's so scary to hear the heart beat just stop!!! I wasn't dilated enough to try pushing so they took me down for the c section. They told me it was very lucky I didn't push as he wouldn't be here if I had tried. Unlike yourself though I didn't have that scaryness at the end. I hope you are able to move past it soon! Your little digs is here and that's what matters now!!
Is anyone else having pain breastfeeding? My nipples are sore and I know everyone says it's temporary but I would have thought it would be getting better by now.
FT- I am taking ibuprofin and percocet (tylenol and codiene) - I have cut down on taking the percocet in the past few days. I didn't like the way it made me feel in the hospital - lightheaded and dizzy, so I tried to take just the ibuprofin and it was horrible. I was in severe pain. I would say take the drugs for at least a week then try and taper off.
KK my nipples are sore too. I know they're supposed to suck on the areola not the nipple but his mouth is so small that even at its widest he only gets a little areola. I've been using lots of lanolin and it seems to help. They also suggest rubbing a drop of milk on them and letting it dry.
Oh, apparently my little guy came out and had a true knot in his cord. The doc was shocked that he had a perfect apgar score and a true knot. I guess he's already a boy scout.
KKL- wondering the same thing, it hurts to feed a little although is actually getting better every day. Right side is worse, like kym I only see him get the nipple and not much more, at least that's how it seems. Until today that seemed ok but now he is falling on and off the right side, think maybe milk engorgement means hes struggling to latch properly?
In terms of treating, I'm slapping on lansinoh after every feed after first expressing a couple of drops and rubbing over and allowing to dry. Then I shove a breast pad on and stick them in a bra. If I don't wear the bra any movement feels really painful!
Ft - that does sound scary, the main thing is little George is out safely Just goes to show fundal height is a load of crap too, I measured 2cm behind at every appointment until 40 weeks when I was bang on (but still 40cm at 41 weeks) then had the 9lb baby!
With you on the constant feeding too and lack of sleep. I haven't had more than 2 hours in a row since labour started at 5am last Friday, so a week ago! Not sure how I'll ever catch up! Still need to writes birth story but figure will be quicker on a laptop if I can ever get to it!!
I'm typing one-handed, so this will be short. Just wanted to share a few quick pics. Don't they look so tiny in those big cribs!!! I think it will be awhile before we actually use them.
